Oil painting I made from life at the weekend, using sepia tones. The sitter, Andrew, is an artist himself. Very fast painting, more of a sketch than a sustained painting. A great experience in making quick decisions.

Which was your favourite of my drawings from 31 days of drawings in January?

The full set is on IG Julia Renault Artist

I’ve numbered them, so you can just comment with the numbers. Or you can scroll back to the day and comment below the drawing.

Whatever is easiest for you.

Caught the model in a reflective mood.

Appropriate for today.

When I drew this I was thinking: how little can I draw and still have it read as humanoid?

Now, I am thinking: what is the most abstract figurative artwork that I can choose?

Models in lycra.

I thought the top one angelic anyway!

Foggy day here in Jersey.

Two Trees In The Mist is one of my favourite paintings. On my site and available. Do you spot the daffodil?

That’s what it's like here, at this time of year.

A painting I remember from my childhood. (It was a print on a relative’s guest bedroom wall.) Millais lived in Jersey, as a small child, and there is a road here named after him. #jerseyci #localartist

Day 15 of drawing humans in January. Nearly halfway through the month.

I was wondering if I should make a video or reel about how I started, and how it helps me as an artist?

Comment below to indicate interest or not.

Mammogram today.

I thought a drawing of mine which includes breasts should be part of a health message to get scanned, if you are called.

Day 13 drawings of humans in January. This is one of many life drawings made in a formal life drawing session with a professional model.

One of my portrait painting heroes. He painted other subjects besides portraits, as do I. He painted in watercolours and oil paints, as do I. Like him, I do not wish to be pigeonholed.
John Singer Sargent was born on this day in 1856.

Sargent's output as a portrait painter was impressive, but he also produced a large number of landscapes on his travels in Spain, Italy, and Switzerland.

Taking a chance while new on here.

Some might glance at this post, and decide, “she’s not any good at art.” That would be their choice. They could have checked my website juliarenault.com first!

A RA challenge I accepted: draw with my unaccustomed hand.

Ink drawing of seated man.
I loved drawing his casual but stylish clothes. I kept it minimal.

Enjoyable Elvis cover.

I create drawings where I stand before the model and draw with a pencil, using eye, hand and brain - nothing else. When I search drawing on here, I am not finding many without the aid the of machines. This was a ten minute drawing.

7 January 1792: #OTD Mary Wollstonecraft's Vindication of the Rights of Women was published.

This text was hugely influential and is regarded as one of the earliest works of feminist philosophy.

The little pops of yellow, as daffodils bloom across Jersey are always a welcome sight for me. Right now there are some flowering in Jersey, as we live in a microclimate.
This oil painting is on my website in the Coastal and Views category of paintings for sale.

Maureen Cleave describing the Rolling Stones to Evening Standard readers in 1964. I think this is my favourite passage in all music writing. It's packed with detail and tension, but nothing is unnecessary.

The view from my studio just now. This is unfiltered. We really do get skies this blue in Jersey, even in the winter! #jerseychannelislands #artstudio #localartist

Ink drawing. I enjoyed drawing the checked shirt this person was wearing.

Life Drawing. Drawing of a professional model at a formal life drawing session. This is a well established academic discipline among artists, such as myself, trained to draw and paint the human figure. #lifedrawing

Quick intro: I am a professional artist. I am thinking of posting some of my drawings of people on here. With the idea of making people my focus for January. My other art can be seen on juliarenault.com
