When I worked on #TheOffice, Greg Daniels had a list of questions he asked of every story. Some were show-specific (eg “Are we saying something truthful if exaggerated about office life?”), but many are applicable to any script. Here’s a 🧵 on them…

This morning, I was hit in the face by a baton.

I’m going to have a pretty gnarly bruise but we need to remember why this is happening: Trump and ICE are rounding up our neighbors, treating them as subhuman, and shipping them off to labor camps in foreign countries. It has to end.

In Adaptation, a fictionalized Robert McKee says, “The last act makes a film. Wow them in the end, and you got a hit. You can have flaws, problems, but wow them in the end, and you've got a hit.”

Bull. Shit.

Nobody’s making it to Act 3 if your Act 1 sucks.

I’m delighted that ANDY & ME made the ISA Fast Track Fellowship’s Top 50. Thanks @networkisa.bsky.social! Congrats to all the writers, whether you made this cut or not. I’ve learned how arbitrary these things can be, and how much depends on the taste of a single reader. Writing a script is a win.

I struggle with loglines. And based on the #Scriptsky #Screenwriting #WritingCommunity posts I’ve seen, so do lots of other people. Loglines are hard! But if you’re trying to get people interested in your script/book, it helps to have a great one. So here’s a 🧵 on some LOGLINE DOs and DON’Ts.

I would love to pitch this story in person during Down syndrome awareness month, so if you are able and feel called to help, I’ve created a go fund me to help cover the costs. Link is below. Thank you to everyone who gave me notes on this script. Kia kaha!

I’m pretty sure this audio is just added to the footage from DC but it would be extremely funny to do this in real life to troops occupying American cities. Just blasting Hanoi Hannah propaganda broadcasts from the Vietnam War.

I received a notification that ANDY & ME is a quarter-finalist for Table Read My Screenplay/Hollywood today—which was a nice surprise because I have absolutely no recollection of submitting it. 😳

The US Administration is now deleting its internal communications, in brazen violation of the Federal Records Act, in order to conceal its other illegal acts.

Those entrusted to enforce our Congress’s laws sit, simply watching this happen, flaccid and impotent.

Our funding depends on usage.

So go ahead and check out that book even if you don't think you'll finish it. No one will know. Check out that DVD even though you might not like it. Get ambitious in your quest for knowledge.
