Fair, but I heard it in my head as “dilettante gentleman of leisure” and he had a martini in one hand while he said it. Yeah, I’m definitely elaborating…

I’m trying not to judge that… and failing.

You can think of it that way. More of a continuum. There are conservative rural Mennonites that are pretty similar to the Amish, and radical, activist Mennonites (who often work closely with Quakers) doing front-line work.

Another point of similarity- Germantown (PA) Mennonites worked with like minded Quakers on the first formal protest against slavery in North America in 1688 (at least among white folks)

Quakers and Mennonites are not the same denomination, but they’re often aligned. They’re both historic Peace churches. We often find ourselves working closely together.

It’s a misconception that the Amish & Mennonites hate technology. prohibitions on certain things are all about maintaining community, not the tech itself. not sure what the thought process was on bikes, but likely it’s that they are for short distances, thus didn’t take people out of the community.

Wait a second- Trump bought the Mennonites and I never got a check, and Soros is paying protesters and I never got a check, either!
What’s going on?
October 22, 2025 at 9:17 PM
There’s a lot of Mennonites that used that very Home Depot. Not any longer.

Mennonites: “get our name out of your gosh darn mouth!”

Mennonite, but close enough.

Mennonites! Assemble!
If we can't help build barns, we'll help build movements.

Done (nonviolently, of course).

FWIW- Mennonites have ALSO been on the forefront of pushing back on the administration too.

As a Mennonite, scratch that, as a moral human being, I cannot disagree with this enough.
September 30, 2025 at 4:11 PM
Wait, what? Mennonites are pro-statist? I may not be understanding what you mean, but Anabaptists are, at least traditionally, very suspicious of any government intervention.
