What I found interesting though was how my family across different age groups and not tech-savvy perceived the update. They felt it gave their old phones a breath of fresh air, like they’d just gotten something new. It’s fascinating how a design change can spark that kind of emotional response.

Of course, there are plenty of ways to look at it. I believe Interfaces will increasingly blend with their surroundings. Apple might have underestimated how much effort it takes to make that shift while still meeting everyone’s needs by default.

Admittedly, those big floaty buttons in the browser are unnecessary. This is where you drop the defaults and do what is right (detach component). 😅

You could call it an admission of failure. On a more meta level there is a growing tendency toward software that is more customizable and more ambient. iOS aside, I find it exciting to design systems that can survive customization. MySpace era vibes :)

That’s the cost of unhinged acceleration. I’m sure there are people inside who care, but scale and speed has a way of muting moral.

Sad to see Visual Electric shutting down because of the acquisition. Some people think www.recraft.ai might be an alternative. However, I never tried it and it doesn't look as good as Visual Electric.

Seeing Johannes standing in front of it makes it all feel that much more real.
