When it comes to the representation of Black people in media, there’s a lot of racism and harmful stereotypes that are portrayed for the public to see. Minstrel shows, casting white actors in blackface, and habitually writing out Black characters, are just a few. Ryan Coolger's films are different.

it’s refreshing that Ryan Coogler puts proper care and research into every step of his filmmaking process. It’s a pet peeve of mine when I’m watching a movie and I can tell the writer or director didn’t do their homework🙄

The themes of family, loyalty, and justice in Black Panther can manifest differently depending on each character's values. Coogler’s writing makes it easy to understand the “villians” when in reality, they were searching for peace after being wronged.

I watched Fruitvale Station back in middle school before I knew who Ryan Coogler or Michael B. Jordan was. The more I learn about Coogler, the more impressed I am by him as a storyteller

Still thinking about how I watched Sinners three times and was privileged enough to see it in IMAX. Ryan Coogler you will forever be famous

Discovered from this article that Sinners uses the Kishōtenketsu story structure instead of the typical Western 3-Act structure viewinder.com/sinners/

they really did follow similar career paths though

Brick & Fruitvale Station (indie darling)
Looper & Creed (big budget success - same star from their darling)
Last Jedi & Black Panther (given the keys by Disney)
Knives Out & Sinners (original genre movie makes big $$$)

Love this. And if I’m remembering correctly, Creed came about because rocky was his dad’s favorite movie. This man clearly adores his parents.
Ryan Coogler says he’s rebooting ‘The X-Files’ for his mom, a major fan of the show, and she’s already read some pages: ‘She’s fired up.’

ICYMI, CREED turns 10 this week.

"Our movie, it’s like a weird baby of Rocky, Rocky II, and Rocky V. But it’s about Apollo Creed, so obviously, III and IV have to be in there, right? It’s like this amalgamation of all the movies before it."

Every once in a while I remember Michael B. Jordan hasn't even been NOMINATED for an Oscar yet. It's ridiculous. He's one of the best actors and biggest stars of his generation.

That’s his ENTIRE filmography. Incredible run.
I've said this before about Coogler but basically any white director with his resume of hit making would be treated as the second coming of Spielberg, the way JJ Abrams was (with less justification) like 10-15 years ago.

I want to be the next Ryan Coolger. Bringing art to life and moving people with it. I dont want to make movies that people stream from their homes(and there is nothing wrong with that) I want to make people to go to movies and bring back nostalgia of being excited just like how Ryan did with Sinners

"There’s also this metaphor for artistic sacrifice, for how an oppressive system can dehumanize people and how people experiencing that dehumanization can rage against it through art."

I find new reasons to love this movie, and Ryan Coolger, every day
The blockbuster horror film "Sinners" features the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians in a short, impactful scene. For some Choctaw, it is the first time they've heard their language and seen their culture accurately portrayed on screen.
