#showmeyourknits Celebrating INDIE Designer & Dyers this week. I'll pick one: Jenise Hope, who's Elephant Cowl design I modified for this vest with vintage commercial Shetland yarn. I also love her afghan designs.
My own dyeing, using only natural dyes, developed into my teaching business.

#showmeyourknits Week 68, FLOOF. Head band used a 25 gram skein of Still River Mill 50% quviut, 35% suri alpaca, 15% silk. Pattern: Elisa McLaughlin's Bohemian Cinch Head Wrap. One friend gave me a wealth of different rovings. I'll barter with a spinning friend and knit a sweater for first friend.

#showmeyourknits Week 67. What's on the needles? 4 things almost done: 2 scrappy baby blankets. Husband's sweater needs the neckline finished, grosgrain ribbon and buttons. The weather is getting colder, so this is priority #1. And the endless skinny scarf of handspun alpaca dyed with goldenrod.

#showmeyourknits Week 66, cables. Afghan squares I knit in 2017 with naturally dyed wool yarn before crocheting them together. The finished piece is 50" square and hard to fit in one photo. The pattern is Norah's Vintage Afghan by Norah Gaughan. I used 16 of her 20 squares--don't like bobbles. 😝

#showmeyourknits This week it's horror stories--or dang-I-knit-it-loved-it-then-lost-it stories. I found this easy mitten kit by Friendz Blendz (70% wool, 30% mohair) at Bessie's Farm Goods in Freeport, Maine, when I ran out of knitting projects while visiting family. Fuzzy, fun...LOST 😢

#showmeyourknits SPOOKY! Here's a happy little bat using Anna Hrachovec's pattern BOO the Bat. And a bonus Praying Mantis; pattern by Hansi Singh. Both were knit with wool yarn scraps.

#showmeyourknits SOCKTOBER This rugged pair was knit with Olivia Weiss's pattern, Kitchener: Foot Soldiers, but using a different heal.

#showmeyourknits Week 61, Joy & Caring. It was a joy to offer a hat pattern--in Maine wool ❤️--to support the work of mainefibershed.com. If you are nearby, please visit the Rockport Library in Oct. to celebrate Maine Fibershed. I'm joining the board and will be demonstrating natural dyeing on 10/25.

#showmeyourknits This week's prompt is Autumn. This sweater was made for my great-niece's 2nd birthday a few autumns ago. Knit in the round, steeked. The lower border is the Basket Weave stitch from Barbara Walker's A Treasury of Knitting Patterns. Sport weight wool dyed with dyer's coreopsis,

Getting ready for another fair--this one is presented by the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association. 3 days and 60,000 happy people. I give talks and demos--"Dyeing Maine Fibers with Maine Plants"--and hang out with sheep, goat, and human friends. Then I spend a week or so recovering.

#showmeyourknits Week 59 is scarves. 2 of my "designs." 1st is a double looped scarf/cowl knit in fingering weight wool, as a tube of different small Scandinavian stitch patterns separated by a few rows of dark green garter stitch. 2nd "scarf" is a sampler of a number of naturally dyed plant colors

#showmeyourknits Week #58 is WIPS I've just started a sweater for the guy who usually says he's so old he doesn't need more sweaters but agreed a cardigan I'm building with Berga Parti, a Swedish wool 2-ply DK yarn handed down by several people 'til it came to me. A handsome chestnut color.

#showmeyourknits This week it's sweaters. Green Wood, a Bohus sweater designed by Kerstin Olsson, is one of my favorites. I used a knit from SOLsilke, steeked it and used some of the colors to knit the frind band facings. There was enough yarn left over for a green tam.

#showmeyourknits This week's prompt is knits for babies. These Sunflower Booties--designed by Kathie Popadin, AKA Nifty Patterns--were knit ages ago with Telemark, a discontinued wool sport yarn from Knit Picks

#showmeyourknits Stripes! Lap robe knit with wool worsted naturally died with logwood, Saxon blue indigo, madder, dyer's coreopsis, marigold, goldenrod, and other leftovers.

#showmeyourknits Here's a scrappy hat knit with fingering weight wool. I use ALL of my scraps.

#showmeyourknits My favorite shawl is this quiet one knit with luscious Hawthorn & Thistle 48/52 Mohair goat /Jacob blend from my friend Steph's flock. The pattern is Understated by Diana Rozenshteyn. Spouse J. expressed admiration for this, one of very few knits he's commented on in 57 years.

It's been 1 year of #showmeyourknits Knitter's choice. I've worn "Water's Edge" a lot since knitting it 9 years ago. It's loosely based on Meg Swansen's pattern "Fair Isle Cardigan" and knit with vintage Shetland yarn I was given in exchange for dyeing a sweater quantity of yarn with goldenrod.

#showmeyourknits This summer layer looks like nothing in particular--it's just a simple stockinette top knit of laceweight baby camel yarn, dyed with logwood (Haematoxylon campechianum). The pattern is Leah Tunic by Purl Soho.

#showmeyourknits Blue! This is the Blue Shimmer cap, designed by Anna-Lisa Mannheimer Lunn of the Bohus group. In this case the hat was not knit with the original Bohus yarns, but using similar colors from Knit New Haven in New Haven CT. A little bright but a satisfying knit.

#showmeyourknits What's on the needles? I've been submerged in gardening for a few weeks but have knit a bit of a skinny ribbed scarf of handspun (not by me) alpaca, dyed with goldenrod from my field. The unknown spinner left couple of thicker yards--maybe teaching someone? I'm leaving it in, too.

#showmeyourknits Garter stitch week. This afghan used up a lot of bright sport weight wool yarn. I knit 2 striped garter tubes, stitched them together, then knit a garter border until I ran out of yarn. I knit lots of baby blankets in garter stitch for a local charity to use up odds and ends.

#showmeyourknits It's yellow's week. Socks knit with WildFoote Luxury Sock yarn dyed with marigolds from my dye garden and based on Ann Budd's Basic Sock pattern.
