The reversal of Chevron also poses a grave undoing of the American Republic as we know it. Far from the elimination of the “administrative state,” Chevron has enabled the executive to actually govern when the legislative branch has been paralyzed by money and interests for decades. End-stage.

I was at the very tail end of the Manila envelopes in the early 2000s. It’s bizarre because we used email and IM services but this legend maddeningly persisted due to the insistence on wet signatures and live documents. What a time!

If you look at Twitter’s financials, they have never been profitable and were losing $3M a day (over $1B a year!). Trump provided them with a badly needed temporary boost in 2015 and through his presidency, but the company was in the verge of bankruptcy before and many times since.

I’m really stunned that anyone is listening to Nate Silver, or that he even has a job. He’s missed every prediction, flubbed every major forecast, and single-handedly ushered in the demise of his entire profession over the repeated polling misses. Game over, dude. You’re done.

I agree with this framing, for sure. But let's not delude ourselves:

Our education system is in shambles and was dismantled as far back as the 1960s; restoring Civics as mandatory in grade school is the first step to rebuild it, and then reinforce and redesign our institutions to match our values.

Absolutely stellar. Great summary of the current state of the micro-blogging wars!

Definitely a case of less actually being more. Gross.

No. The design philosophy breaks defederating in the sense that all content is linked to the individual user, so if a server defederates, the user can just take all of their posts, connections, likes, lists, etc., to another server. Or their own. Breaks the stranglehold of large servers IMO.

Best summary of the absurdist “doomer” skeptic hysteria that I have seen yet. Well done! 👍🏼

We must not fear progress, but embrace it. For it is our destiny.

Great read and reporting from @reuters.bsky.social. Personally, I think that the skeptics and so-called "doomers" are sensationalizing the possible threat that "super-intelligent" artificial intelligence poses to humanity. Now, we're likely to see "Q*" emerge sooner, not later, due to failed coup.

Yeah, by "views" I necessarily meant the "people" who hold them. But you are right: when conversations happen, and when people have the tools to self-moderate their feeds, then you get willing participants in discussions rather than involuntary shouting matches. Definitely better than Twitter/X.
November 23, 2023 at 12:50 AM
What exactly is happening? Twitter/X is problematic purely because of its advertising / algorithm climate combined with the lack of moderation controls. Bluesky doesn't have those problems. But if you're saying it's turning into Twitter/X because there are more views... welcome to the human race!
