I'm old enough to remember when we had a president who was strong enough to get us out of a war, not so weak he could be manipulated into one.

At some point the press needs to stop adopting right-wing framing that this is a "DEI purge" and call it what it is — white supremacist violence against our collective past.

Jackie Robinson’s Army career wiped from military website in DEI purge
Robinson trained as an officer and was assigned to a tank regiment during World War II.

GOVERNING is negotiating with the other side when you need 60 votes and you only have 53.

Refusing to negotiate when you don’t have the votes is incompetence.

That is why Republicans can’t govern.

There really is a Bible story for pretty much everything - when Israel asked for a king:

"He will take 1/10th of your flocks, and you shall be his slaves. And in that day you will cry out because of your king, whom you have chosen for yourselves; but the Lord will not answer you in that day."

Been thinking a lot lately about how great it would be if only the American literary canon contained a novel about how the American people voted themselves into fascism, with many voters thinking they were just choosing a straight-talking non-politician who could clean up the mess in Washington.
This is how Lewis describes the fascist President-to-be. He "was vulgar, almost illiterate, a public liar easily detected, and in his "ideas" almost idiotic, while his celebrated piety was that of a traveling salesman for church furniture."

I'm convinced that there are few things he likes more than sitting at his big-boy desk and signing fancy papers in fancy folders, then holding them up to the cameras with his Very Serious Face on. He's playing president, like an absolute child.
not to downplay the ugliness of this but this is the equivalent of busywork. they are giving him executive orders to sign so that it feels like he’s doing something.

just blurted out in class "yes, you have to cite where you got your info. in a world in which lying loudly is the only thing that seems to get rewarded, citing your sources is an act of resistance" and folks, I really believe that.

Before mass deportations are bad economics (think the food you eat, the homes that are built, the roads upon which you drive), they are cruel, immoral and deny the image of God in our neighbors. The time to speak is sooner rather than later.
