it’s wild that mls and apple aren’t doing a twice-weekly offseason roundup show on mls season pass

it’s the most fun time of the year where there’s *by far* the most intrigue and there’s just…nothing

My favorite part of MLS preseason is clubs acting like this shit is absolutely top-secret when most of their tactical and positional changes are going to be obvious in the first 20 minutes of their first game.

I think MLS’ biggest problem is fans not being a fan of the whole league. People love their team, but generally aren’t watching games as a neutral. This was the best way for fans to learn and become invested in teams that aren’t their own

Big assumption that they have a plan here. ETR linked the generations of MLS fans & now we have nothing.

Podcasts used to be how we got MLS analysis. SBI, Allocation Disorder, ETI. Now what.

MLS’s biggest problem is that it wants to be at the cultural level of the NFL and NBA in the U.S. without investing in the things necessary to grow the culture around the league AND the sport to get it to that level.
(Forgot to post this over here)

1. Kill beat writer network, which provided granular coverage in each market
2. Lay off entire editorial staff that was producing increases in readership before COVID

I just can’t quite get over how unbelievably stupid this is … When MLS signed the Apple deal I thought it made sense but in order for it to stick they needed to beef up the editorial offerings. Instead, they’ve pulled back repeatedly. I don’t see the growth plan … at all.

If there's one thing that MLS has been consistent about, it's "MLS will not explain it's decision."

I’m glad that they treat this pod like a farewell, but no one should mistake that for anything like an understanding of why it happened. The lack of vision from MLS editorial is almost awe-inspiring and frankly depressing.
For 10 years I got to do a podcast about the league I love with some of my best friends in the world.

Today I am sad. Probably will be tomorrow, too.
