One of the main purposes of leadership (from either party) is to be a "sin eater" for the caucus.

Why do you think the Senate leaders are from SD & NY, & previously KY? Why are the House leaders from La. & NY, & previously SF, & a deep-red CA dist?

It's to safely draw fire to protect the caucus.

Okay, to sum up:

Democrats got the GOP blamed for the shutdown.

They turned that into a massive electoral victory in off-year state and local elections last week.

And then they negotiated a deal for more than the clean CR but less than their initial ask.

And this upset folks like Downhour.

Oh was burying Trumpism and its abuses 10,000 fathoms beneath the earth something we would have gotten if the shutdown had lasted another week?

I remember this post, because the three days previous I had been out and seen the most beautiful autumn colors, too. The sort that were perfect in a cloudy light, deep goldens and reds.

It was masterful. The screaming Mimi's don't understand political strategy. The shutdown was just long enough for the new premiums to drop last week so people could see what a bloodbath it was going to be. R's will never be able to outrun this. And Dems ensured SNAP & Fed workers will be safe. 💅

What legislation of consequence have Republicans passed in 20 years? It's easy when you're doing nothing, easier still when you've given up your power to the unitary executive, easiest when all you want is to break things.

A, yes raw numbers matter first for power in the chamber. B, you assume your preferred candidate wins everywhere, and that's just stupid.
