So, what needs to happen to these vandals going into all these USG offices, locking people physically out, locking them out of computer systems, connecting unsecured computers to classified systems, etc, is that they need to be arrested & charged with whatever makes sense given their actions.
We see they exceeded a simple majority on his second impeachment trial, & it might've been more than just 57 had a simple majority been sufficient, since there's little reason to defend a loser.

May as well join the winning side & get credit for winning once it's a fait accompli!

The GOP House can rationalize inaction bc they know it'll fail in the Senate, & the GOP Senate can rationalize bc they know both the GOP House won't impeach, & they'll never overcome the collective action problem in the Senate.

And bc Reps know it's doomed to fail in the Senate, there's less incentive for GOP Reps to stick their necks out, too, lest they put targets on their own backs for nothing.

All downside, no upside.

GOP Senators don't need to give it serious consideration bc they know House GOP won't impeach.

Higher threshold also means Trump has more options to coerce, induce, etc, if he gets wind of it.

Much easier for him if he only needs to keep 34+ GOP Senators on-side, vs 50+.

I think it could potentially help in a situation like this, bc I think the threshold matters. Different threshold, different incentives, different behavior.

The higher the threshold, the harder it is, the more coordination it takes, the greater the risk of it leaking, etc.

Where does it leave GOP at EOM?
-Can't hold SNAP hostage
-Filibuster abolition threat degraded
-Can't use Epstein files against Dems
-Trump's approval is way down
-Tighter margins
-Another prolonged shutdown will be fresh in voters' mind come Nov
-ACA premiums are way up
-Growing fury at ICE, etc.

Passing the law was good, bc now it's unavoidable that there's a cover-up. But also, not cutting off SNAP during the winter feast season, getting Trump to argue in court to be allowed to starve ppl, & funding SNAP for all of FY26, all worthwhile.

Dems' positions have improved in every aspect since.

I feel like there's a popularized term for that, but I can't think of it or figure out how to look it up.

Is there any sense of regret among Trump voters there?

If he has no authority, DHS is acting w/o authority, & they are, in fact, just an armed mob wearing the costume of the government.
January 16, 2026 at 7:38 PM
I don't really see how one can argue in the future both that he was illegitimate & all his acts were void, but also that DHS is acting lawfully now.

Idk that the argument works, but if it is to work, groundwork needs to be laid in advance, not merely after the fact.
January 16, 2026 at 7:38 PM
Also, prosecution would be for under a future Dem admin, & if one wants to argue the current regime is illegitimate & there is no government, then DHS is not acting under lawful orders in the first place & cannot claim legitimacy as acting on behalf of the people while attacking them.

If we sent those exact same forces uninvited into Mexico or Canada, they would not be so precious about an army/law enforcement distinction.

Likewise if we were invaded by Mounties or Federales & they were menacing Americans.

I'm a groundbreaker!

And my theory is, the people are sovereign, & sending an armed force to occupy a city & engage in indiscriminate deprivation of rights by threat or use of force, & under pretext, is, in fact, a war.

It may not be *the* Army, but it is *an* army. A rose by any other name…

Given that they're masked & refuse to identify themselves, there's no way to know they aren't, in fact, troops, acting in violation of the PCA.

It will become increasingly important for people to take video and protect and save that video so that when there is finally an accounting for what’s happening, there will be evidence.

I hope all those federal agents manage to stay dry, because it would be a complete shame if they somehow got wet & had to retreat to put on dry clothes.
