I hate to break this to people, but the real James Bond almost certainly died in space.

This is also why Dwayne Johnson is actually a tantalizing candidate for both parties. Vance can't work in kayfabe; he's just a jabroni. Rubio? Pffft. 21stC US politics takes place in a liminal space between real and fake, so you need someone who lives in that space and has mastered it. 6/6

Anyway, the key to Democrats recovering is to meet Trump in his environment and operate in kayfabe. Guys like Chuck Schumer have no idea how to do this; they're stuck in a fixed reality. They need more people who address the camera directly to sell their version of reality like a wrestler does. 5/

People know Zohran Mamdani's social media game is good, but I'm not sure they get that he's successful because he also knows how to operate in kayfabe. He's the face to Trump's heel. He cuts promos. He shakes hands with the people. He's 1980s Hoganing/Harting his way to the NYC mayor's office. 4/

Pro wrestling and reality TV have always been closely related, and the two people who really made Trump are Vince McMahon and Mark Burnett. With the character he grew in those environments, Trump brought kayfabe to mainstream politics. He cuts promos. He hurls insults. Nothing's real. Or is it? 3/

Trump came into that world, sponsoring early Wrestlemanias, and learned from it. He knows how to inhabit a character. There is no "real" Trump underneath, but that doesn't mean what we see is genuine. He's always been a costume of himself. It's worth noting that Jerry Springer hosted wrestlers. 2/

With wrestling, it's not so much that people *think it's real* than that there has come to be an agreement between the performers and the audience to treat it as halfway between real and fake. The line has blurred since Vince McMahon broke kayfabe to avoid taxes on sport, admitting WWF was fake. 1/

He's doing that; it's at Ontario Place

Something about the floating head and the angle of the body makes it look as though he's staring right at us. I would let this guy loiter, he's not fucking around.
