So far the Newsboy Legion is good Golden Age silliness plus there’s a “CHEESE IT! THE COPS!” panel which made my day

(and yet I wonder—how do I even *know* this phrase? Looney Tunes?)

Current comics stack (pile?)—Marvel Two-in-One Epic Vol.3; Simon & Kirby’s kid gang Newsboy Legion; THE U-RAY, the last of the BDs I bought in Belgium; the Doctor Strange entry in the new Bloomsbury comics history series; and HATE REVISITED for a local comix book club (w/some back issues)

The 20th century examples in the sideburns wikipedia entry are absolutely perfect selections

Was in Belgium visiting family/sightseeing and was lucky to get a taste of Belgian comics culture in Brussels.

Visited the three floor (with comics library!) museum, saw a few comics murals, and picked up a few albums for myself.

Forgot that the back of the picture sleeve actually has the lyrics

I’m seeing either Joel Grey or Klaus Nomi as Stan here…which is definitely strange

Been watching SLOW HORSES so thought to dip into SID & NANCY (1986), realized Gary Oldham’s career arc went from playing heroin junkie to negligible personal hygiene habits super-spy and I’m now wondering if it’s the same character

Got to see this today on the big(ish) screen! Still quite the ride.

I love me a record company promotional inner sleeve but this one with a Jerry Stiller & Anne Meara comedy record between Led Zeppelin IV and Exile on Main Street is 👨‍🍳💋🤌

Today’s pickups courtesy of the Atomic Records pop-up: 2 comps, one with Milw. bands, one of post-punk NYC scenesters, taking a flyer on the Garland Jeffreys LP, and have seen “(We Don’t Need This) Fascist Groove Thang” referenced a few times recently so felt like stumbling on a copy was kismet

Got to see this silent classic on the big screen with live accompaniment on the Mighty Wurlitzer

Makes me wonder what Skurge 3:16 is

Y’know, I might be wrong here…

*This* is the guy he looks like—

As an short aging guy with personal space issues, there’s probably a rapidly approaching expiration date for me and street fair/festival/standing room type shows.

That said, glad I made it out to see Brazilian music legends Os Mutantes for the princely sum of $0

Re-watched THEY LIVE (1988) tonight and while I knew it would hit hard in these times, I didn’t expect a callout to THIS EXACT YEAR

Reading a collection of Magnus Robot Fighter 4000 A.D. and it’s oddly satisfying in 2025 A.D. to read about a hero whose main superpower is to beat the living crap out of robots

(love how the robots go “squeeee” when he destroys them too)

You should really check out Mail-Order Mysteries if you haven’t already (no entry for the second ad though)

Current reading stack—not sure if I’ve read the Brood Saga, reread of a certain JLA/JSA Crisis storyline (iykyk), the Comics and Modernism anthology is interesting, Jules Verne because of the GODZILLA MONSTERPIECE THEATER appearance and thought the 20,000 Leagues map would help!

Most of my time travel scenarios involve going to see bands…but maybe I could sneak in and be a fly on the wall of this acting class?

Belafonte, Brando, Steiger, Matthau, Stritch, Wally Cox, Bea Arthur, Tony Curtis in one room learning their craft 🤯

Not sure why in this year of our lord 2025 I’d buy a collection of “tales of weird media” but perhaps that’s where the horror lies

In any case, included in this volume is a tale by the delightfully named Oliver Onions

Today’s pickups! Just finished the Pauline Black autobio so the 2 Tone was an easy choice. Also got a Townshend solo LP that I didn’t have for some reason, some fun surf vocal tracks, and a real oddball Stiff (USA) comp that includes non-Stiff bands like The Cure and Dexy’s Midnight Runners
