When I was 6, I wanted to be a space paleontologist…
I’m at the annual paleontology conference. Here’s how people today have described their work:

“I basically study swamp monsters”
“I’m a dinosaur orthodontist”
“Dead bird bird watcher”

From my limited experience in it, it feels like the game industry is the tip of the spear for awful business practices.

There’s a direct line between gamergate & J6
Games industry forces RTOs (often involving moving cities for a job that may not exist in a few months) because being in office together on zoom is just ~*so heckin valuable*~

but then replaces as many people as they can get away with with chatbots because the human connection doesn’t matter

Hmm!

Wisdom y’all
Something I’ve noticed is there seems to be a sort of pervasive assumption that the status quo has gravity. That there’s a natural, comfortable way things should be and that deviations from the normal state of the world will correct themselves in time.

But as a paleontologist, I know this is false.

Why stop at phrenology when you can add another old pseudoscience to justify racism.

This is NOT the Donald Jonniford Trump that was portrayed in those AI pictures! Fireman Trump woulda stepped into action!
incredible photo that's definitely worth at least 1,000 words from Andrew Harnik of Getty

Independent bookstores are donating to food banks and organizations that help with food insecurity.

They are not the same.

Great way to put this
“Science is never settled” sounds reasonable—but it’s often a rhetorical trick to undermine consensus on issues like vaccines or climate change.
Science evolves, but some things are overwhelmingly supported by evidence.

Folks in California can opt out of data collection. You now can tell your browser once that you don't want to share your data and it will tell every website.

This matches my critiques about AI. It’s a browser that’s short-cutted its way to a MVP. It’s a browser that hasn’t done the hard work, it was birthed outside of a community, it’s a browser that asks “how do you do fellow browsers”. It’s designed for shareholders. h/t @not-a-robot.com

Ian's article clearly shows how assistive AI can be, far from the bedazzling hype that we too often hear. AI needs to be supervised, reviewed and checked.

I mean, I've found trash bags hidden in a closet after asking my kids to "take out the trash" - AI cannot be trusted to do the implied tasks
AI can't do content audits, OK? You CAN build a pretty nifty assistant, though, that helps you do audits better. I built one using Claude, ScreamingFrog, Zapier, and Google Sheets. You can read how (and how AI drives me nuts) here: www.ianlurie.com/content/audi...
How to: Audit existing content using ScreamingFrog and AI
You can’t build an AI content auditor. You can build an AI content audit assistant that analyzes your site’s existing content, traffic data, and crawl data for opportunities. I’ll show you how I do it...
