Nurse, mother, keeper of dogs. Spending way too much of my time lately just being disappointed in my country. Used to be antifanurse@bluesky, but decided that was stolen valor. Still there in spirit.

On Thanksgiving, the immigrant children held at the Dilley detention center gathered in the gym for what they thought was a holiday feast.

The kids salivated over a spread of turkey, sandwiches, pastries and pies, a family told me.

But the food wasn’t for detainees — it was for the staff.

For some reason I’m thinking of those stories bad people luring children by getting them to help look for a non existent lost puppy.

You FINALLY get your dementia patient to go to sleep after taking them to the BRx3 and walking the hallways. Get the bed alarm on, check on everyone else, finally catch up. 2 am stop at the break room for a coffee and turn around to see this standing in the doorway....

When I was younger and thought “I wonder what I would have done on 1930’s Germany?” I never thought I would have to answer it in real life.

The other day I bitched that people always forget LaMonica McIver in their list of politicized prosecutions.

The New Yorker has a profile here, so hopefully we can change that.

Looking forward to explaining to some of my coworkers that “don’t follow he news”* that they might want to reconsider their family’s school break vacations to Aruba. It will involve pulling up a map for them.

1. A landmark study was just published in The Journal of Pediatrics.

It found a 68% reduction in suicidality for trans youth getting HRT.

It also found only 7 of more than 400 stopped taking HRT... and of those that did, 4 still identified as gender-diverse.

Transgender care saves lives.
Study In The Journal Of Pediatrics Finds Trans Youth Care Lowers Suicidality, Few Detransition
The groundbreaking study found that suicidality dropped for transgender youth receiving hormone therapy by nearly 70%, with only 7 patients of 432 discontinuing treatment.

This is the time of year I curse the NYT for being so anti-trans, but we are just asking questions, that I can’t in good conscience give them $$. So I look longingly at the NYT recipe trove unable to easily access it.
