I'm excited to share our latest story from the
@lydiafinley.bsky.social lab, where we show that it's not just whether cells take up nutrients that matters, but how and where those metabolites are used. Out now in @naturemetabolism.bsky.social: rdcu.be/ejFTs 1/
Intracellular metabolic gradients dictate dependence on exogenous pyruvate
Nature Metabolism - Jackson et al. provide insight into how metabolic adaptations that accompany cell state transitions drive reliance on exogenous nutrient availability, focusing on pyruvate as a...

Structure of human mitochondrial pyruvate carrier - what a milestone by the wonderful Dan Ma's lab from Westlake! Using Xudong Wu's expertise in nanoantibodies, they capture MPC during transport, revealing its pseudo-symmetric model and alternate opening mechanism with functional cardiolipin. Bravo!

Pleased to share our @cp-cellmetabolism.bsky.social forum on why we think standard cell culture practices deserve more consideration. How we culture cells has implications for cell metabolism & beyond! With

happy to share our forum now online @Cell_Metabolism! fun for us (Guy & myself) to collaborate with @dfazakerley.bsky.social, Joycelyn, & Sam in putting together what we hope will be a useful piece for the broad metabolism community re: in vitro modeling! www.cell.com/cell-metabol...
Seeing the world through the eyes of cultured cells
The metabolic environment experienced by cultured cells often differs from physiological conditions. Here, we highlight the effects that the microenvironment can have on cultured cell behavior and adv...
