Florida Decided There Were Too Many Children
The state’s elimination of vaccine mandates is a courageous first step toward decluttering itself of any excess kids.

I get this - Amazon has their uses, but buy your dead tree books from great local bookstores, not Amazon. I like my Kindle, it’s handy. I like real books more and buy as many as I can from WGB. And other indie stores.
Bookshop.org’s Anti-Prime Sale is here and that can only mean one thing: FREE STANDARD SHIPPING!
From Tuesday, July 8–Friday, July 11, enjoy free shipping sitewide while benefiting WGB and all indie bookstores!

I’d been excited for Threads, and then the stupid people found it.

The logical place for someone with actual principles to wind up.
I’m a freedom-loving conservative. I left the Republican Party 5yrs ago. Today, I’m doing something I never thought I’d do - I’m formally joining the Democratic Party. Here’s why:👇 open.substack.com/pub/socialco...

We had a post from @gruber.foo today about the lawsuit over Apple Intelligence. I'm guessing the lawsuit is because of the Siri delay. Yes, Apple screwed up but they also very clearly said that AI was something in beta that would be rolling out over time. And it is, in fact, rolling out over time.

Well, enjoy the brief respite from COVID-driven supply chain disruption inflation and prepare for the tariff-driven economic crash that’ll cost a lot of people (especially the blue collar workers who thought Democrats didn’t care about them) their jobs.

Not surprised that Trump has no respect the territorial integrity of Denmark — he had no respect the territorial integrity of E. Jean Carroll either.

My kid, hearing me coughing when I got home from the gym: “Dad, are you sick?”

Me: “No, I’m fine. This is just Fran cough. It happens.”

He still doesn’t believe me, and thinks I have plague. Even though the cough is gone now.

In other words, pronouns and identification are not that big a deal unless you want a culture war.
A dialogue:

—In what sense is God male? Does God have a Y-chromosome or a penis?
—No.
—Then why do you say God is male?
—Because in the Bible, when God speaks of Godself, God uses 3rd-person masculine pronouns & verb forms.
—Ah, so you're saying God *identifies* as male and has preferred pronouns.

In most US states there is one total trans person playing one sport. This is not a realistic or workable solution. There are not enough trans athletes in most states to field a starting 11 on one soccer team.

I’m the only person in my household who consistently turns lights off when leaving a room. If I hadn’t been an LED early adopter my electric bill would be about $1k every month.

Descending ladder workout this morning: 1250m row, 50 sit-ups, 100 dubs, dropping each of 5 rounds to end with 250, 10, 20. Amazingly I finished in 29:00, under the 35:00 cap.

I’ll pay for it the rest of the day.

Honestly, I’m pretty happy mostly lurking here. The algorithm shows me far less toxic content and it feels the most like Old Twitter.

I don’t always agree with Krugman, but he’s forgotten more about economics than I’ll ever know, and he has a Nobel while I’m just a schlub with an IT job and a polymath of mediocrity. So I’m sharing his take because he’s way smarter than me.
Debates about the causes of inflation and disinflation are getting strangely tangled, partly because some people don't seem to recognize that both aggregate demand and aggregate supply can shift. Here, using standard textbook pictures, is what I think happened 1/

Still searching for that twitter-esque hit of fast microblogging, insightful reading, few trolls and fewer nazis. Threads is ok, hoping this is better. Reading here is pretty ok so far.
