At a recent appt, new doc asked if I’m left/right handed.

I gave my usual response: I write w/ left & do everything else w/ right. I grew up poor. We didn’t have special left handed stuff.

He looked at me for a long time & said, “I’m sorry you were poor.”

Philly & Pittsburgh agree on one thing: we both love and need our public transportation systems. 🚏❤️
"We can’t continue to have a strong, educated workforce that will keep Pennsylvania at the top of our nation’s industries if our current and future workers can’t use affordable, reliable public transportation to get to school and work each morning." www.cityandstatepa.com/opinion/2025...
Opinion: The PA Senate’s historic opportunity to shift gears on mass transit
What’s at stake now – and in the future – if the chamber doesn’t provide needed support for public transportation in the state budget.

Per the interwebs, 75% of robin fledglings don’t survive to November of their birth year. Yesterday there was ANOTHER ONE screaming at our front door, but when I saw it and myself issued forth with a primal scream, it at least didn’t hop out into the street.
To Live and Die in Dormont, a short story about a baby robin

A few months ago, we noticed a robin’s nest in the Japanese cherry tree out front. It was easily visible from the front porch, so we watched the baby robins grow. It got interesting at the end, the plump baby birds nearly too big…

IMO, every org like a nursing home, prison, sports venue, summer camp and so on… should have an “emergency management” person trained in interpreting decision making info from NWS and other official sources to make calls such as cancellations and evacuations, with protocol they have final say.

Every time I ride the T at rush hour I think about the traffic that would be caused if each rider was driving their own car into the city. We can’t allow any more cuts to public transit funding.
On Thursday, Dormont Councilwoman Jen Mazzocco stressed the importance of providing accessible ways to work or school while mitigating the potential negative impacts of mass transit cuts, such as car pollution and increased traffic.

It’s my second growing season in Dormont. Last summer, I didn’t pick the raspberries brought to us by bushes that came with the property on account of being a bit of a berry snob. Harvested about a cup this morning. I’m liking them better but still not as much as the wild ones.

Over half of the US population does not live near any transit. Many fewer people live near quality transit that runs every 15 minutes or less. In other words, most people in the US do not have many options in getting where they need to go.

And, according to our research, it could get worse...
How Much Transit Investment Is Needed to Get Back to “Normal”?
Transit is essential for the climate, our health, and our pocketbooks, but was never set up for success in transportation policy. While transit agencies in the United States have made slight increases in the amount of buses and trains they run, this has been insufficient to meet the growing demand f
