January 3-10 all saw record high global surface temperatures.

The 365-day running average is once again at 1.60°C above pre-industrial.

January 10th was 1.76°C above pre-industrial.

The climate 8-ball is overworked and exhausted.

Why not Ignore the elephant in the room:

One more temperature jump of such a magnitude and that's it for our civilization, as from there on things will deteriorate fast as the feedback cascade will go into overdrive

Extremes went nuts the last 18 months

Sorry - a not so very good Sunday ice update. #Arctic sea ice extent is easily the *lowest* on record to kick off a new year (JAXA data)... 🌊

• about 610,000 km² below the 2010s mean
• about 2,160,000 km² below the 1980s mean

🚨 The first preliminary analysis from the Japan Meteorological Agency highlights 2024 as the warmest year on record globally (since at least 1891 in this data).

Additional climate rankings will be released on 1/10/2025 for other datasets.

This monoculture of trees reflects the industrial use of glyphosate. The effects on biodiversity are much greater than the area sprayed. Flying insects and other mobile wildlife don’t recognize private land boundaries and are poisoned when migrating or dispersing.

Your 'bonus moment of doom' for today: The 6th great extinction.

“Now, sometimes it rains in the dry season, and sometimes it's dry in the wet season. It means the trees are fruiting at the wrong time, which upsets the chimpanzees, and also the insects and the birds.”
