Since 2022 when I became a subject lead for Humanities I have discovered just how powerful a rigorous, coherent RE curriculum can be and how much it underpins and complements other subjects. Important words from Richard Kueh here.
📣New post!

👡Time for Cinde-RE-lla to go to the ball?

🧩Religion today is complex. Intelligent RE prepares pupils for complexity

🌍Curriculum craves diversity; RE is inherently diverse

💭RE injects wisdom, sensitivity & reflection into world asking BigQs: AI💻, climate change🌡️ & living well together🖖
🛐 Religious education has such an important role to play in helping young people to understand the world – but it will only fulfil its potential with clear national standards, says @thewayofkueh.bsky.social

Haven’t been on either platform for a while. Leading the humanities team alongside the ECF Lead and ITEC role is keeping me busy! Great to see so many familiar names that have moved over to Bluesky. Here’s a photo of a different sky from school last week!

The window is narrowing for residents to evacuate surge-prone areas on the FL West Coast ahead of Hurricane #Milton – now aiming for a second round of Cat 5 strength (top winds up to 155 mph at 2 PM ET). An update from @drjeffmasters.bsky.social and I:

If you receive evacuation orders from local authorities, follow them.

I was sad to miss ResearchED Cornwall today, but I was on parenting duties taking my daughter to a hockey match in Sidmouth. We went for fish & chips and had a mooch around the shops afterwards. Windy day!

We have our Open Evening on Thursday next week. We:
Have a world map and various food. Visitors place them on the country they think they came from.
Big OS map of our area. Visitors add a sticky dot to show where they live.
Examples of pupil work and books.

What other ideas are there?

September is my favourite month and autumn is my favourite season. Love the feeling of new beginnings at school, whilst seeing the leaves change colour and start to fall at home (we live in a very rural area). The weather is usually pretty nice too.

When you lead humanities in a small school, you experience the full breadth of the subjects. The role is totally different to when I did it in a larger school. Currently writing a topic plan on Judaism. Yesterday, I wrote the KS3 PoS for PSHE. I’m a geography specialist, but also teach sociology.

I wrote something about mark reviews (you may know these as re-marks) which summarises what I think every year when I read social media, but never say.

TLDR: if you put in bulk review requests, consider spending the money on interventions instead.

Mark Reviews
As part of my exam role, at this time of year, I undertake reviews of marking. These are more commonly referred to as re-marks, which is a misnomer. Papers are not re-marked from scratch. Instead, the...
