Utterly shocked to hear about the mistaken release of Hadush Gerberslasie Kebatu today. It’s a basic function of the prison service to know who they have in custody and the terms of their sentences. This completely lets down the victims, witnesses and police who got him convicted

The Prime Minister should tell voters whether their elections will be delayed by another year, not dodge the question.

Democracy delayed is democracy denied.

Another really grim day of news yesterday. Too many people I know can’t live their lives as they wish because other people choose to hate their religion, colour or heritage. This has to be challenged, not normalised

Had a positive day yesterday starting at parkrun followed by talking to residents in Epping including some of those directly affected by recent events. Thanks to those who shared their thoughts on what has been happening (and on parking, overgrown vegetation, abandoned cars and other issues too)

Arrived at tonight’s Epping Forest Council meeting. I hope councillors tonight will agree to express support for the victims of recent incidents, condemn the violence and criminality those with no interest in our community have stirred up, and support an end to the use of hotels for asylum seekers

Had a very pleasant wander round Epping in the sun looking at scarecrows this afternoon. Open at the community garden (next to Marks and Spencer) until 3pm tomorrow

Today Liberal Democrat Peers in the House of Lords will table a fatal motion, to reinstate the delayed local elections. If passed, millions of people would get their votes back.

The Conservatives must back our plan and end their disgraceful stitch up with Labour.

At Essex County Council budget today, the Lib Dems prioritised Essex’s vulnerable adults, families and young people; environment and local road schemes. These have all been let down by Essex County Council under the Conservatives.

I raised concerns in Parliament today about Essex Police cutting all 99 PCSOs due to a £12.5 million budget shortfall. These officers are vital for community safety, and this decision could have serious consequences. The government needs to step up and support Essex Police.

Today at PMQs, I shared the story of Dipak, a Chelmsford pharmacist whose business is under threat due to NHS contracts failing to cover rising drug costs. No pharmacist should have to dip into their savings to stay open.
