I don’t know about #koreader for the kindle 4 — so far it seems clunky and confusing to me, especially with buttons instead of a touchscreen. But the kindle reading software is just fine, especially with #calibre managing which books are on it.

No, the best part of jailbreaking is this!

One more from Herculaneum — this is of some of the things found there including a BED (made of wood!) and a wooden table.

Even more amazing, they found almonds and walnuts (zoom in to the right side of the table) that were preserved by Vesuvius’ pyroclastic flow.
A burnt and blackened wood table sits next to a corner of a blackened wood bed. On the table are various pots and bowls including one that is holding carbonized almonds and one that is holding carbonized walnuts. (!!!)

Herculanum today! This is an absolute treasure of a location.
A beautiful black and white mosaic on the floor of a bathhouse. There are sea creatures including an octopus, cuddle fish, dolphins, and Triton. A brilliant mosaic with two people standing inside ornate patterns. There are a view signs of damage. A statue of a man with a dog and bearskin, taking a piss. It’s apparently of a very drunk Hercules. An ancient Panda Express, with pots set into a marble counter. Basically a Taverna.

Sorrento’s special power aside from growing lemons is inlaid wood, and this pendant charmed me.

The church here has a stations of the cross done all with inlaid wood and is stunning.
A blue and white pendant with an intricate pattern sits on an explanatory card. The pendant almost looks like a Portuguese tile. I climbed around on an active volcano yesterday! It was hard to get a picture of the caldera, and the smoke that was whisping out of parts mostly doesn’t show up on camera. But there was an amazeballs view of Napoli and Sorrento and of the Mediterranean on the other side.
Jonobie, a light skinned woman with purple hair, is wearing sunglasses and a green jacket. Behind her is a town very far away and below, and some foothills. A panoramic view of the Italian coastline from a mountain, with beautiful blue water in the distance and red rock up close. In the far left, a darkish smoke cloud from the volcano obscures some of the scene. If you’re reading this and sighted, it’s worth zooming the photo to see some of the details of the volcanic rock or lovely Mediterranean sea.

A painting of a lovely woman in similar period clothing, but it’s hard to see because she’s basically hung next to the ceiling. 😡

Portrait of Elenora of Toledo. She’s in a resplendent gown with gold and black swirls, and a gold mesh partlet (probably not the right name, but in the same place). Also some son is next to her but let’s be honest, I don’t give a shit about him. A woman in a close fitting blue dress with cut work on the arms and a translucent veil. She also had what looks like a see through partlet. A self portrait of Lavinia Fontana, a renaissance painter. She’s has a fabulous ruff and blue dress with white sleeves on. An absolutely fabulous portrait of an Elizabethan era woman in a stunning fitted dress. Annoyingly it is almost hung at ceiling level and a very ostentatious naked dude’s statue is blocking some of it. I believe she is Christina de Lorena.

I love where I live, and that I was able to vote by mail (as we do in WA). I was at my kitchen table and enjoying my coffee while thinking about things. I wish this for all of the US.

A few photos from my walk today. I didn’t take many because (unlike many, grumble), I wanted to get explicit consent of humans I captured. Doggos seemed thrilled that their owner was feeding them treats while I took the photo, so we’re counting that. :-)

I also have now successfully reupped my newest (hopefully non-exploding!) battery to have a “I do not consent to the search of this device” sticker on it.
An absolutely adorable femme hacker in a purple hoodie and stripey tights taps on a phone. Around them are thought and speech bubbles saying, “I want an attorney and I invoke my right to remain silent!”, “Build tech for people, not $$$!”, “Meanwhile in the underground, the resistance proceeds apace,” “I do not consent to a search of this device!”, “Do not mess with my right to repair!”, and “My Data, My Choice!” A Barbie pink sticker with sparkly silver around the outside says, “Let’s sue the government! EFF”. The apostrophe in “let’s” is a heart. It’s all very cute.
