This is terrifying. Bannon is openly talking about fascist plans for “conquering the states one by one”. He’s talking about European states. www.francetvinfo.fr/monde/usa/pr...
"Conquérir les Etats un par un" : l'idéologue d'extrême droite Steve Bannon décrit la stratégie des conservateurs américains pour influencer l'Europe
Cette conquête aussi politique qu'idéologique débute avec les élections législatives en Allemagne, dimanche, pour lesquelles le milliardaire Elon Musk a clairement pris position en faveur de l'extrême...

It turns out that big, unregulated businesses will do the right thing only as long as it suits them. “Good design is good for business” doesn’t hold up. We cannot negotiate anymore; we need to do what we should have done a long time ago and take power for ourselves.

I want to share my experience today with Google support, trying to get Gemini (their AI/plagiarism machine) turned off in my Google workspace account. That account is where I personally do all my work communication—I am an editor, and most of my work contracts explicitly ban any use of Generative AI

Awful news. Only knew of her from the occasional insightful social media post, but thoughts with everyone close to her.
Devastated by the sudden loss and passing of our dear friend Vicky. She was a kind, thoughtful and all round amazing person. So much integrity and sincerity

Thinking of you Vicky ❤️

My big question to all the companies insisting that AI “workers” are going to replace humans is; who is going to buy products and services from you when none of us have salaries anymore? Are you going to start lobbying for UBI?

I want to thank Elon Musk for attacking Wikipedia for being a part of the internet he can't currently control. It reminded me to donate to support Wikipedia, the best remaining thing about the internet. You can donate here: donate.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?...

I loved A Book Apart; it was a huge part of my life for around a decade, and I was devastated when it shuttered. I just learned that David Demaree has built a site tracking where titles (whose rights have reverted to the authors) are popping up as they become available again authors-together.org

A couple of times a day, outside my window, something sounding like an ice cream van plays the first few bars of The Entertainer. I can never see what it is. It’s recently changed key and got faster. What is happening

I made a website traintimes.org.uk that can e.g. show you live departures 7 times quicker than the official site, even though it... gets the data from the official site?

It’s both a policy failure, and symptomatic of failures in some modern web development.

Can’t remember the last gig I went to and now I have two visits to the O2 in the space of a week. And for two almost polar opposite musical experiences. Can’t wait

To kick off an effort to do and share more weird and wonderful side projects, I've written up my process of creating a personal taxonomy for managing my digital stuff. If you like IA puzzles you might find it interesting... or it might send you to sleep. jonnypeacock.co.uk/blog/designi...

My website has been down now for *24 hours* due to a big mess up by the hosting provider. Any recommendations for more reliable ones would be very welcome
