This is seriously inhumane. Recent examples in Australia include a Brisbane woman who had a box of her dying child's possessions taken in a sweep. One can only imagine the outcry if this were inflicted upon any other part of society.

The reason that Australian universities are dependent on international student revenues is also the result of government policy. From the Howard years on, funding for domestic undergraduate places was strangled. Universities were told to make up the difference by enrolling overseas students
