Covering #MNUFC for the Minnesota Star Tribune (but contractually obligated to not indicate nor imply that I'm an employee, or staff member, at same). Can't shut up about Minnesota sports, but still always Minnesota nice. Also still a crackpot.
Made the sports cover with #MNUFC stories for @stribsports.startribune.com three days in a row. Gotta love the playoffs!

Monday night at 9pm Central! No national TV! No other game that night! I simply cannot believe this league’s inability to make any sense!

Job’s not done.

Time for a business trip.

Gonna go ahead and say #MNUFC is heading to San Diego in two weeks

More from last night's #MNUFC win in game 3, focused on the epic penalty shootout, and on the halftime that turned things around for the Loons:
Analysis: Minnesota United’s 10-round shootout with Sounders had a bunch of subplots all its own
The shootout ended with a shot off the crossbar, marking the fifth time in two playoff shootouts at Allianz Field that Seattle had found the woodwork.

Silver linings for the international break for #MNUFC:

* St. Clair and Boxall don't have to leave North America
* Finland (Lod) plays Friday/Monday (and the 2nd is a friendly)
* Rosales is suspended for the semis anyway

Triantis (Greece) and Harvey (Panama) are Thur / Tue, meaningful games. Rough.

Takeaways: Minnesota United advance in MLS playoffs after surviving red card, 10-round shootout with Seattle
The Loons took a second-half lead playing with only 10 men, and goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair converted a penalty before getting help from the crossbar for a 7-6 shootout victory.

Closing some #MNUFC loops here:

- Joseph Rosales is suspended for the conference semifinal.

- Dayne St. Clair, Michael Boxall, and Joaquín Pereyra all got their second yellows of the playoffs but aren't suspended - and can get a third in the semis without being suspended for the conference final.

Initial #MNUFC game story:

You could go a decade without seeing a game like that.

UNREAL.

DAYNE ST. CLAIR SCORES A PENALTY IN THE SHOOTOUT, ANDREW THOMAS HITS THE BAR, THE LOONS WIN THE SHOOTOUT 7-6 AND ADVANCE, EVERYONE IN THE STADIUM IS SCREAMING SO I MIGHT AS WELL DO THIS IN ALL CAPS

about fourteen hours ago I said *one* ridiculous thing was left in this match, I was short by eighteen
Anthony Markanich is on for Kelvin Yeboah, which was likely always the plan - but hits a little bit differently after #MNUFC is down to ten.

I don't know, it feels to me like this match has one more ridiculous thing left to happen in it. I just don't know what it will be

This game is gonna have a documentary made about it

Joaquín Pereyra misses the entire net - but Andrew Thomas, who was substituted for Stefan Frei before penalties, comes up in significant pain and needs medical attention.

There's too much in this game. There's simply too much.

Well, maybe this is where this was always headed - we're going back to penalties at Allianz Field.

#MNUFC 3, #Sounders 3, it's been a wild game and a wild series - why not finish it with another shootout?
November 8, 2025 at 11:16 PM
MORE CRAZY.

Jordan Morris scores for the #Sounders in the 88th minute, now level with #MNUFC at 3. Is the game headed for penalties? Or is there more ridiculousness left before the final whistle?
November 8, 2025 at 11:05 PM
THERE'S NO WAY.

Down to ten men, the Loons win a corner, Joaquín Pereyra swings in a teasing ball, and Anthony Markanich - OF COURSE IT'S ANTHONY MARKANICH - steals in at the back post and heads home.

#MNUFC 's ten men have turned it around and the Loons lead 3-2. Unbelievable.
November 8, 2025 at 10:48 PM
SET PIECES DON'T NEED ELEVEN MEN

#MNUFC takes a long throw short for once, then Michael Boxall swings in a cross, Morris Duggan heads it on, and Jefferson Diaz heads it home.

The Loons are level! There's a half-hour to play! IT'S ALL HAPPENING

maybe not the best time but I can't fault them for trying

HALFTIME: #Sounders 2, #MNUFC 1, Rosales 🟥.

Well, you can't beat it for stuff happening in the first half... but it's gonna be an uphill battle for Minnesota to stay in the playoffs today.
November 8, 2025 at 10:05 PM
#MNUFC hadn't had a player sent off all season.

This was not a good time to snap that streak.
November 8, 2025 at 9:59 PM
Joseph Rosales, what are you thinking?

Rosales gets taken down by Jesus Ferreira, gets up, and decides he's gonna go for the ol' intimidating forehead-bump.

Ferreira goes down, Victor Rivas runs over with the red card out, and #MNUFC is down to ten.

A moment of foolishness at a terrible time.
