This took bloody ages to research - I don't think anyone has brought all this together in one place before - so please do take a look.

The irony here is that New Mills used to elect Lib Dem councillors back when Labour were winning overall control of Derbyshire - now Anne Clarke is one of only 3 Labour councillors.

Little of what I thought I knew about elections 15 years ago is still true now.

Charing Cross Road, pedestrianised today. Glorious. Because whenever you take cars away, cities get better.

They are going to Thai the knot?
Starting today, same-sex marriage is officially legalized in Thailand.

It’s the first country in Southeast Asia to recognize marriage equality.

So considerate of the snow in the UK to choose to come late in the evening on Saturday, and early in the morning on Sunday - so as to minimise the disruption caused.

But it is a good excuse to stop working for an hour.
Unpopular take: Kemi is right. Lunch (unless it's a proper sit down) is generally awful and best avoided. Have a bigger breakfast.

To be honest - I much preferred his brother, especially in Cool Runnings.
You wouldn't recognise Nick Candy, the billionaire who just made a big donation to Reform UK.

But you'll probably recognise this picture... and there he is!

It's not even called fall - I think you mean autumn.
Fall being a “season” is a fucking lie. It’s THREE WEEKS.

It's a tricky award this year for the Spectator really. You see, Keir Starmer took his party from one of its worst results of all time to a landslide majority. Ed Davey multiplied his party's seats by a factor of 9. Nigel Farage put his party on the map in a way it hadn't been before. Who to pick

💨 That's like winning by 30 votes in a parliamentary election here in the UK.
BREAKING: Democrat Adam Gray has officially WON the congressional race in California’s 13th Congressional District. He won by just 187 votes. Don’t let anyone tell you that your vote doesn’t matter. Democrats have expanded their numbers!

I've actually just done some matrix multiplication on some scrap paper - and if the for/against breakdown within each party had remained the same, but the vote were held following the 2019 election rather than the 2024 one, the result would have been approximately 215 for and 394 against.
TERMINALLY ILL ADULTS (END OF LIFE) BILL SECOND READING

AYES: 330
NOES: 275

Maj: 55

It passes- with a significant majority. Huge but somber moment in the chamber, the first time the Commons has voted for assisted dying. But there’s a long parliamentary passage to go.

Says a lot that about 90% of the traffic I’m seeing on X right now is absolutely convinced the British govt is about to embark on a mass programme of state murder of the elderly and vulnerable. What was until recently the town square of politics has become the preserve of the bad, mad and deranged.

I have sympathy. I remember being in Waterstones once and seeing a women at a table looking quite bored and a little bereft, needless to say no queue at this table.

I think the industry has the same problem as others, people only get out of bed for superstars and don't appreciate the others.
This is me at a book event at my author table. Send help. Zero books sold. 😕 The only person who has stopped to chat wanted directions to the books about air fryers.
