I'll Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Play Moate, Co. Westmeath Again). Only a couple of years before his 1993 comeback, Meat Loaf was reduced to touring the provincial towns of Ireland: here's a brilliant piece on how that went for him www.loudersound.com/features/mea...

Headwind all the way to Athy this morning on the Blueway, but hopefully it will push me home before the rain. Really starting to see the autumn colours now after the quiet spell of weather.

Worth a look if you're thinking of more sustainable travel with your bike.
I’m going on a 3-day cycling trip in the Dolomites for a Rouleur piece.

I’m worried about the amount of flying I/we do, and have resolved to travel sustainably, wherever possible.

So I’m travelling overland from Exeter to Badia, using public transport/cycling. This thread will document my journey.

In the last few weeks traveling around the country I recorded a lot of wildlife and livestock enjoying spring. I put them all together in one place. The radio audience loved it, you might find it a bit of a refuge too.

Bologna has recently published a Report on the first year of implementing the 30 km/h speed limit in the city. For the first time since 1991, no pedestrians were killed, road deaths decreased by 50%, crashes by 13% and urban traffic pollution by 30%.

When you cut one side of a hedge and leave the other you can really see the difference rotational cutting makes, plenty of blackthorn here to keep the pollinators happy #farming #agriculture #pollinators

The dry spring so far has been great for getting through farm work but not so great for building back up my fitness after an injury disrupted winter. I skipped the club spin this morning to go solo to the hills around Wolfhill, and the results were predictable, better to suffer alone #cycling

This year's malting barley crop is in the ground, about 6 weeks earlier than last year, conditions not too bad either, the land ploughed over wet enough but got some nice slow drying. #harvest25 #farming #kildare

I saw a Woodcock this morning when I was out the fields working, I hadn't seen one for years. I wonder had it winter Ed around here or is it just moving through. #irishbirds #kildare #Ireland

If you're in need of some calm this morning, here's 30 seconds of birdsong and woodpecker hammering from our native woodland area.

Sound on, eyes closed and breathe.

It’s a cliché to say it—and no two historical scenarios offer a perfectly compelling analogy—but what each American is doing now is what they’d be doing were they a German living in Germany and were it 1936-38

There’s no more doubt about who the appeasers or the bad guys are—they’re in the open now

Stark....
This is what should be on every front page right now. What's happening in the US right now is an illegal power grab by a private citizen. IT'S A COUP.

It's a digital coup. It's Musk who's leading it. The consequences are terrifying. And it's coming for us next.

My first 100km spin since I injured my leg today, 3C, more layers than an onion, damp and drizzly, dirty back roads, dropped on every little drag, my legs burning long before home and I still had a ball. #everydayadaybetter #cycling

Fair play to Sophia, I'd rather her than me, one of those in a lifetime would be enough for me.....
Sophia Atwood Apperley (cycling club "VC167") has just completed a Super Randonneur in January, and she's planning to ride a Super Randonneur every month of 2025.

People mocking Imbolc as unscientific are unaware it's a precise astronomical calculation so it abuts the point in Earth's orbit halfway between Winter Solstice & Vernal Equinox. If it's the Gaelicness that's objectionable, it's common to many cultures eg in Finland it's called Kevättalvi. #imbolc

Where I live we now have got through the 10 weeks of the year with less than 9 hours of daylight and are approaching what I like to call the "rapidly lengthening daylight" period of the year. This #dataviz shows the weekly loss and gain of daylight at 51 degrees north.
