E-bikes for everyone: 3 NZ trials show people will make the switch – with the right support
These pilot schemes suggest e-bikes can be popular even in non-riding communities. But easy access, infrastructure and local organisation are all vital.

@bikeauckland.bsky.social sometimes it’s the little wins which make the difference 👍😀 adding green cycle-right-of-way markings to this vehicle crossing exit at BP Waterview helps driver awareness and keeps people- and dogs- on bikes safe 🐶🚲 #AklBikeLife

Does your local grocery store look like this?

If not, it’s probably because:
1) zoning created large distances between housing & stores.
2) the streets between housing & stores are unsafe for biking.
3) there isn’t any/enough bike parking

One of the most successful pedestrian streets in the world, the Strøget in Copenhagen, was filled with cars until a 2 year pedestrianization pilot project in 1962. The opposition argued “no cars means no business,” but the street has been a massive retail success, the city’s busiest shopping street.

WATCH & SHARE: This is very good. A prominent youtuber is actually giddy (but also very thorough in covering the joys, advantages, issues and challenges) about how trying biking for transportation in London has changed his life.

Easy to watch & more convincing probably than 99% of public campaigns.

It’s REALLY important that #Vancouver’s Downtown Business Association, who were originally against downtown bike-lanes, are now among their most vigourous supporters, because of the evidence that they are better for downtown business than any street parking they replaced.

Bike-lanes mean business.

Hey @bikeauckland.bsky.social Bike train on Te Huia would be a great #biketober event! 🚂🚲🥳
In the 1930s-1940s, the Bicycle Dealers Association of Southern California organized a number of Cycle Trains, which took riders and their bikes from Los Angeles to other cities for a change of scenery.

LIFE magazine followed one from Los Angeles to San Diego on August 11, 1946.
