A very shiney #cryoEM structure of the MCR Activation Complex from anaerobic archaea. It’s the complex that makes methane. Or as I prefer to call it— the Fart Complex 💨. Big congrats to @schullerjm.bsky.social and the whole team! 🧪🧶🧬🔬🌊🌍 #ArchaeaSky

"As an exoplanet passes in front its host star, its atmosphere, if it has one, is illuminated. Its gases change the color of the starlight that reach the Webb telescope. By analyzing these changing wavelengths, scientists can infer the chemical composition of the atmosphere."

That is so, SO cool.

Tattooing goes back 4000 years in Nubia and Egypt and was primarily done on and by women. While we have almost no writing about it, we do know certain jobs favored it and that these practices survived into Coptic and Islamic Egypt. Male dancers had tattoos too. #FolkyFriday

Buried under the Turkish desert for over ten thousand years, Gobekli Tepe is the oldest known human site. Its function is unclear, with evidence of animal-faced and giant statues, clock-like steles, and potential dwellings: is it a city, a temple, or something more? #FolkyFriday

The oldest known civilization on Earth is Sumer, which emerged in Mesopotamia (modern-day Iraq) around 3100 BCE.

The Sumerians developed the first known writing system (cuneiform), built city-states like Ur, Uruk, & Eridu, & created advanced irrigation, law, & trade systems. 🌍📜🏺

The theory that the universe is inside a black hole proposes that each black hole contains a “baby universe.” This theory suggests that our cosmos is just one part of something much larger. The theory also proposes that black holes could be portals to other universes.
