I live in Portugal now, and I've been asked why on earth did Britain do such strange thing. I can give a flippant answer but the proper answer would require explaining huge cultural and philosophical differences between the British and the various peoples of the continent.

Lets be real, I love both history and architecture. I wanted to be an architect and I'm fascinated by history. But we do not need to be spending public money keeping buildings going that are trying to fall apart. That's what I mean by 'I don't care'. That one was probably fine.
