Grumpy dad. Music food and grump.
Watched The Life Of Chuck tonight. Suspect it will be one of my top films of the year. One scene in particular - you'll know exactly which one if you've seen it - is one of my favourite things for a long time.

A beautiful film that reminds me of ripples on a pond.

Just watched the best film I've seen this year, His Three Daughters, on Netflix. About three sisters waiting for their father to die. Beautifully written, acted and directed right to the last line.

Really loving the latest Wolf Alice album. Its a lot less 'indie', more widescreen and sounding like they've been digging back into classic pop and somgwriter music. Even leaning into country rock in places. And while that makes it sound like they're heading into dadrock territory it sparkles.

This pic is the bottom of my street in Hoxton in 1977, most of the buildings were demolished about 1980/81. The end of the same street behind the camera is the Eagle pub from Pop Goes The Weasel.

Bit obsessed with this, French, cool guitars and a great shiny garage feel.

Not sure what I think about this song. But can't stop listening. Reminds me of Prefab Sprout. Fleetwood Mac, Supertramp and Mari Wilson's Beat The Beat.

The shifting time signatures make me feel queasy.

Early morning burst of amphetamines on the train. Musically speaking.

One of Madness' best songs, Africa from the Norton Folgate album. So gorgeous.

Some beautiful late night music, including the marvellous Danny Thompson on bass.

Tune of the day, one of the tunes off my first Northern Soul compilation Kent's On The Soul Side. Still love it to this day.

One of my favourite Blondie tunes. And god Debbie looked amazing on the sleeve.

Oh yes.

There are some songs I love that I can't remember never not knowing, Duke Of Earl is one of them, apparently I used to turn it up on the radio when I was 4 or 5, and if it ever comes on anywhere I have to listen to it. It still sounds otherworldly, and nothing else quite sounds like it.

Think this is going to be tune of the day though. Class.

My best mate's mum had the original single of this from when she was a teenager, I taped it and played it to death summer 1983. Still one of my fave Motown tunes.

Absolutely one of the best tunes of all time for me.

Ah the breakdown in this is gorgeous

When Smokey sings indeed...

How does this always sound amazing and fresh as a daisy? Possibly the soul tune I've heard most in my life.
October 7, 2025 at 7:25 AM
Possibly the most Mod tune of the day. Homework by Otis Rush.

So You're Leaving by Al Green, one of my favourite tracks on possibly my all time favourite soul album. But the track itself doesn't become a fave until the fade when they hit the Who Do You Love refrain. Never wanted a song to carry on longer ever.

Already been travelling since 615. And still the sun's not up. I do have beautiful music in my ears though.

Rather enjoying House Of Guinness. For the plot.

Some songs on Spotify aren't playable. Some I know, like a certain song by Patti Smith are likely due to content. But others are less certain. Start by The Jam, the single version is not playable. The album version with its horns and messy ending is but I prefer the single.

So my 16 year old has discovered Temptation by New Order, the Substance version. Which is one of my favourite songs of all time. Top ten for sure. He has probably heard it around the house a lot growing up. But he hears it in his own right now. He sent me this the other day.
