Author of the definitive biography of R.E.M., Maps and Legends, 3rd printing available now on eBay and Amazon: https://a.co/d/cCGWPQO I know the civilian name of every member of the Legion of Super-Heroes.
Whether he meant to do so or just stumbled into it, Bob Haney somehow uses Mr. Twister to flirt with some environmental justice themes that wouldn't feel out of place in this month's issue of Poison Ivy:

DC is on a roll right now, bringing in cool indie creators & turning them loose on their biggest characters. This is very clever & meta-fictional, maybe almost too clever for its own good, but it plays with both the form and the content of the medium in interesting ways, and it's my #TopShelfFriday

First 2 pictures are of a house ad for X-Men 5, as reproduced in the Taschen Spider-Man book. Next 2 pictures are of the cover of X-Men 5. Note how the house ad butchers the coloring of the real cover, not just in the range of colors, but also by not properly aligning the colors inside the lines.

Hard to say. In Ditko's final issue of Spider-Man, Ditko's views on the counter-culture pretty clearly made it through Stan's filter more or less intact:

Found this at the flea market this week. In Asgard, we meet what is perhaps Jack Kirby's most grotesque monster, which is saying a lot, while back on Midgard, Thor has a rap session with some hippies. #TopShelfFriday

In this same issue of the Legion, Grell would push Theiss molecules (and the Comics Code) to their limits with Night Girl's postage-stamp costume

Forget the bustier, my question is how do Calorie Queen's bell-bottoms stay skin-tight with half of the fabric cut out?

To continue the Grell theme, one of the first comics I can remember reading, featuring one of Iron Mike's more striking covers. #TopShelfFriday

Imagine having this song in your back pocket and shelving it in favor of With God on Our Side

Keeping with Vinson's theme, while I don't have any original issues from Wein and Wrightson's run, the Absolute Edition of Swamp Thing, complete with "mossy" textured cover, is my #TopShelfFriday

I'm sure this will take weeks or months to reveal all of its treasures, but, on first listen, Columbia knocked this one out of the park. Maybe the best book and liner notes I've seen in a box set.

Electro is only nominally the villain here - the real villain is bullies at school - like Jack Kirby's contemporary Eternals, Omega is only set in the Marvel Universe because it had to be, because Marvel published it - in both cases, I think editorial demanded a Hulk crossover to goose sales …

Electro was the villain in Daredevil #2 and Omega #3. He likes to welcome new protagonists to the Marvel Universe. #TopShelfFriday

you get over an hour into this and then they drop The Call Up and Washington Bullets on you - still gotta give it up to these guys all these years later

DC's experiments with grey-tone covers are a perfect example of how artists toiling in a disposable medium aimed at children somehow found a way to express themselves more fully within the constraints of the industry and of the printing technology of the day. They can be so striking.

DC is on quite a roll, but maybe the best idea it's had lately is this series of facsimile Treasury Editions, of which the latest is my #TopShelfFriday. This size and format is perfect to showcase amazing art from Bernie Wrightson, Neal Adams, and Alex Toth.

Maybe you have to love this band like I do to get this, but this album finds the Connells embracing a slightly darker '90s vibe after five albums of '80s jangle, and at the time I did not like it for just that reason, but over the decades the songwriting has grown on me a lot.

I disagree, insofar as this two-parter is the best X-Men story ever:

The two-volume Absolute Edition of the Fourth World saga is tough to beat. Even it doesn't include the contemporary Lois Lane stories with the Black Racer and other Fourth World characters, though.
