Your own documents provide exceptions to that! They can bury "consent" in the middle of a dozen pages of T&C.

Not one single 3rd party age assurance business currently being used by the socmed apps is Australian based. One is in the US, one is purportedly in Singapore (but more likely Myanmar), etc

No. Similar front but totally different vehicle

The Holden much larger all round

Google's Call Screen might be useful for spam but the thing that annoys me us that even when I supposedly turn it off my Pixel still activates it!

From an earlier story in @australia.theguardian.com

Most are 8-10 years old!

Typical "customer service" from Transport for NSW. Ticket Inspectors hog the seats while paying passengers are expected to stand!
Do you have any recruitment criteria @johngrahamalp.bsky.social apart from employees having a pulse?

Suburban cricket in Australia. This 3rd Grade match has just featured a 5 ball over. You'd think that the Umpires in the Sydney competition would be able to count to six!

It's all very well advertising your app @johngrahamalp.bsky.social but on a night when your indicator boards are out of action and your platform annoucements (Newtown ) are non-existent it would be nice to know where my train is going to stop!

The bit that worries me is that they store some of their data overseas, and they have so many third party storage sites around the world that they claim it's impractical to list them all!!

Oh, and the local sites are "reputable" - says who?

I'm old enough to remember what we downunder called "flying boats" that were used in New Zealand to go to various islands in the South Pacific

Good old Meta. Warned about the ease of people downloading user details in 2017 and it's only after 3.5 billion users get exposed in 2025 that they introduce rate limiting!

Australians accepting of retail theft as crime spikes

The problem here is that the people crying the loudest about retail theft are the same people managing to increase their profit margins despite this theft. It's no wonder some people have no sympathy

Outside Sydney's Central Station. Why is it always Lime Bikes that seem to cause a hazard?

(Blue and Yellow bikes out of shot all neatly stood up out of the way)

One of my pet peeves as written up by someone in 'Open Road' the magazine from NSW motoring organisation the NRMA.

It's getting harder to see other car's turn signals as cost cutting merges indicators into headlight housings (or lowers them into bumpers I might add)

Today's reminder about the state of illiteracy in the US. Being able to drive a car fast around an oval track with no oncoming traffic does not mean that she can also manage to string together a sentence in English.

About a billion people use Meta products (eg Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp) and seems that not only will all their convos be spied on by Meta AI but there'll be no opt out as of later this month! (TBC)

Ryanair to force pax to use smartphones (Android 6+) in order to board. This is the same Ryanair that reserve the right to give your details to third parties and whose list of permissions is more than will fit on one phone screen.

a security and privacy nightmare!

Just as an aside, congrats to Google Maps who already list the somewhat burnt Kathmandu Hilton as "temporarily closed"

Petersham (NSW) Oval in seasonal change. The cricket wicket being laid and the remains of the winter baseball diamond still being removed (and the grass relaid). Spring is here downunder
September 9, 2025 at 2:39 AM
Sydney suburban rugby obviously over as the home of the Briars currently has the makings of a cricket wicket being installed.

(After our wettest August for decades nice to see clear blue skies in September)

Pedestrian tunnel under Strathfield Railway Station flooded. Warning tape across northern end but you're out of luck if approaching from south! How hard is it @johngrahamalp.bsky.social to hire staff with common sense?
August 21, 2025 at 2:21 AM
Terrible pic I'm afraid but a bit worrying when the train steaming through your station is extremely old!

I think it must be train heritage weekend here in Sydney. Lovely to look at but those carriages pre-date air conditioning so not for me.

Prosecutors have described the accused as a “significant flight risk,” citing his ties to the Australian Embassy and concerns that he could obtain another passport if released

(Sorry, story behind paywall)

I referred to "footpaths"
It only takes one bike to block access to carers with prams, wheelchair users, the disabled, etc.
There are 3 major e-bike operators in the suburb pictured, only Lime causes a constant menace.

Councils have certain powers with regard to illegally parked bikes, or bikes that are causing a hazard, or bikes that are parked too long. These powers include warnings, fines, and ultimately disposal. This has been the case since 2021 in NSW.
