DOGE leaders Ramaswamy and Musk have proposed eliminating all NIH funding, which among other things supports life-saving cancer research, contributing to a 33% decline in cancer death rates over the last 30 years. @morningjoe-msnbc.bsky.social

10 Great Books on Macroeconomics
1) A Monetary and Fiscal History of the United States 1961-2021 - Alan Blinder
A terrific work by a leading economist and former central banker. Candid, insightful and often funny, the discussions on academia vs practice are particularly good.

The cause that Trump's pick for Secretary of Defense championed was not someone who might have fired off one round too many in a firefight. His fellow Navy Seals said "he boasted about the number of people he had killed, including women."
Two saw him shooting a girl.

If you have anyone the unearned advantages Tesla and Musk enjoyed in Washington DC and Wall Street for the last decade, they would look like world beaters too. If capital markets and regulators forgive every mistake and believe every bullshit come-on, the biggest idiot on earth looks like a genius.

More scoops:

-Musk and his co's are under at least 20 on-going fed investigations (including a new NHTSA one announced today.)

-U.S. ad rev for Q3 2024 continued to fall. It's down 31% to $173m from the same period a year ago, when it had already dropped off.

2/ <Real> wages, income, & (most of all) consumption are well above pre-inflation/pandemic levels. Whatever folks say or think about inflation, their "revealed preferences" based on observed behavior do not accord with the vibes. Pick your metric: vacations, air travel, restaurant meals, etc. etc.

Musk, like Trump, believes he’s fucked if Harris wins. By acting on that belief, he makes its truer and truer and, like Trump, has less and less to lose by becoming ever more lawless in a bid to guarantee immunity by stealing the election and capturing the state.

Liberals can argue til the gulags over whether Musk is a pure cynic or a red-pilled freak or something in between. But to my mind, even a *much more generous* interpretation of his near-term goals are worth rejecting. For one thing, they're not legitimate. www.offmessage.net/p/elon-musk-...

As usual, Sasse whines about a strawman version of intersectionality, then *in the very next paragraph* asks why progressives aren't more intersectional.
