The Dem leadership is, for some reason, still acting like this is 1990 and the goal is to score political points, while the GOP is in full on will to power, crush their enemies and see them driven before them mode. The Dems are losing a fight they refuse to admit is an actual fight.

The ACA was never the right rallying flag, but there’s no way the Dems were going to coalesce around “Trump and his cabinet are violating multiple laws, no votes for you until that stops” which is the actual root of the problem.

I’m not sure there’s a theory of victory aligned with opening the government either. This is, imho, a situation which can only be resolved by massive voter backlash, and I honestly don’t know what the best move for getting that is. My guess is that caving for nothing after 40 days of pain isn’t it.

The average American simply does not have the ability to wrap their head around national policy topics. It leads to things like “they cut SNAP for illegals, why don’t I have food stamps” and “I though they were banning men in women’s spaces, why did my 6 year olds’ coed soccer team get cancelled?”

A really good example of the type of pushback you could reasonably expect would be the commander of the guard sent to DC having them put down mulch and otherwise stand around. And all the agencies slow walking things or throwing up logistic roadblocks.

There’s a difference between bad orders and illegal orders, and it’s not snark for me to tell you to have that discussion with the two people you know who could explain it to you in detail in person. Your expectation that the NG is going to largely disobey these orders if they’re patriotic is wrong.
