It’s not clear whether Marana Police Department has a 287g agreement with the federal government.

Panelists say they have a hard time tracking how many people have been detained by ICE locally, saying the raids are small and often go unnoticed.

They suggests a ICE Detention Center will have ripple effects, with buses and cars crowding nearby streets w/ a 24/7 operation.

Members of the Marana Council are reportedly are in the dark, with no communications from the new owners - the privately owned MTC corporation.

Another questions whether the new owner of the former prison will push to house more people than the facility was originally intended to hold, noting other ICE facilities are using bunk beds and having people sleep on the floor.

A panelist says there are some permitting issues with the former prison, suggesting that it will take some time before it could open as an ICE detention facility.
