This week in Tucson: two viral hoaxes, hundreds of threats, and a reminder that debunking lies is exhausting.

Maybe it’s time we try a new rule — Hitchens’ Razor: “What can be asserted without evidence can be dismissed without evidence.”

ICYMI: Ward 5 voters saw one name on the ballot… and thousands still said “nah.” Selina Barajas won easily, but more than 19,000 people skipped her race entirely. Meanwhile, Prop 414 passed but even some loyal Democrats couldn’t stomach a $205-a-year tax increase.

Tucson stayed blue at the ballot box Tuesday, approving every Democrat for City Council and every school bond / override.

Plan Tucson 2025 passed, buses may stay free, but the new Council will have to tackle a $70 million budget deficit isn’t going away.

Breaking: Both #TucsonCouncil Democratic candidates are well ahead in early results. (Selina Barajas is unopposed and is having a great night.)

All four propositions on the ballot (depending on where you live it should be two props) are likely to pass, at least according to early results.

Well, I can’t stay away from a good community meeting.

I am in #Marana tonight, covering a town hall on a potential #ICE facility being set up here.

Just laughing at my first mention of #ProjectBlue in the @tucsonagenda.bsky.social back in May.

Tune in tomorrow for more on #ProjectBlue.

We talked to Kris Mayes just before she filed the lawsuit. Read today’s Tucson Agenda to hear what she had to say.
Wonder Woman’s on her side. So is the Arizona Attorney General. But will a federal judge finally make Mike Johnson swear Adelita Grijalva in?

Good morning, #Tucson.

I am here at the #PimaSupes this morning. I am a few minutes because the meeting is at capacity.

In the roughly 8 years I've covered the meeting regularly, it rarely been this full.

As promised, there is more from Saturday's #NoKings rallies here in #Tucson.

We talked to five members of "Amphifa" - a play on “amphibian” and Antifa — and nod to the inflatable frog suits that went viral from Portland’s protests.
#Tucson showed up. From Presidio Plaza in downtown to a long stretch of Speedway Boulevard in midtown, more than five thousand rallied for democracy and justice in one of the largest protests since Trump took office. And yes — the frogs stole the show.

I am in midtown #Tucson. The block between Tucson Boulevard and half way to Alvernon (past Country Club) along the southside of Speedway is full of Tucsonans peacefully protesting.

(The north side has a lot of people too.)

Journalists in Los Angeles & Chicago: Links in here to PDFs of court orders and/or dept orders that may help you deescalate with ICE, CBP, FPS, DHS, LAPD, etc.

Annoying to print and carry a bunch of pages and can't guarantee it'll work. But better to have than not have.

Stay safe at #NoKings.
#NoKings protests return Saturday.

Journalists covering police response will have new court-ordered protections in LA and Chicago.

We scoured through FEC reports to give southern Arizona an update on the #AZ06 race.

Also, learn more about what we are calling #ProjectRedWhiteAndBlue in today’s #TucsonAgenda.
Former Marine JoAnna Mendoza is the clear Democratic frontrunner in CD6 and has nearly $1 million cash on hand.

But Ciscomani didn’t amass a $2.4M campaign war chest by himself, national GOP groups are pouring cash into keeping CD6 red.

We’ve been busy at the @tucsonagenda.bsky.social, and there is more in tomorrow’s Agenda.
They can’t agree on water, fentanyl, or Project Blue — but the City and County will at least try talking it out.

We will find out next month when they hold a joint meeting next month.

In today's @tucsonagenda.bsky.social, we hear from students opposed to the UA signing on the White House's proposed compact.
“Not worth $500 million”: UA student leaders are urging the UA President Suresh Garimella to reject White House compact.

Students warn that trading federal dollars for political control undermines privacy protections and academic freedom.
