Great find. Brief item in the Chicago Defender (5/8/20) suggests that a.) Carpenter may have barnstormed AME churches w/this sermon—or at very least delivered it more than once, i.e. in Chicago as well as Philly; and b.) the subject of the sermon was exactly what its title suggests.

Love Wesley & K but suggest you read Carl Wilson’s (lengthy but worth it) recent Slate piece, a quasi-rejoinder to K that delves into structural Qs K glides over. Carl’s essay is nominally about the (esoteric) “poptimism wars”—but it’s really a great cover-the-waterfront overview of 21c pop crit

Israeli politicians are announcing that they are going to use the election of Mamdani as a reason to try to convince a substantial number of NYC Jews to emigrate to Israel. I do not think they will be successful in substantial numbers. (www.nytimes.com/2025/11/05/w...)

Jokes aside, I have no patience for these clowns or those who indulge their bogeyman fears. NYC isn’t unsafe for Jews. It’s modestly less amenable to those whose sense of well-being is based on denying Palestinians’ humanity & who wish to glide thru life w/out hearing a different opinion on the subj
