It’s also got way more in common with the Epstein scandal than you really want to know.

THIS is what power looks like. Starbucks baristas are standing tall, with their shoulders back and their heads high, and they’re showing the world what it looks like to demand a fair contract.

At SEIU, we see you, we back you, and we’ll be there with you @sbworkersunited.org every step of the way.
BREAKING: After months of stonewalling by Starbucks, unionized baristas just voted 92% to authorize a ULP strike unless Starbucks finalizes fair contracts & stops union busting.

If forced, our baristas will strike in dozens of cities on November 13 – the company's busiest sales day of the year.
Starbucks unionized workers say they'll strike on Nov. 13 if coffee giant doesn't finalize contract
Union members say they are ready to strike on the chain's Red Cup Day if Starbucks doesn't finalize a contract with their union by then.

I am begging Canadians to understand that Canada Post, like public transit, should not be a business - it's a service.

Canada Post is a lifeline for rural, remote and Northern communities and overall, we need to re-evaluate why people think they "need" random shit delivered ASAP.
The government is reducing service standards and Canada Post’s biggest advantage: its nationwide network.

This plan is about cutting back the postal service instead of investing to give it new revenue tools through things like postal banking. It’s shameful.

It’s not that it should surprise you. We know prisons, surplus population, wage theft go hand in hand.

At Issue is a great example of the range of views allowed in Canadian discourse.

Coyne effectively calls for privatization. Hebert says backlash is expected when union not consulted, while Raj criticizes the union. None question whether a public service should need to turn a profit.

I know I’ve been posting a lot about this, but it’s telling of how this government looks at society that at the very moment Mark Carney can’t stop talking about nation-building projects, he’s throwing the biggest nationwide service-delivery network on the scrap heap because it doesn’t make money.

A global minimum tax on the ultrarich could change planetary politics. Right now South Africa, Chile, France, and Spain are pushing for it
France could raise around €20 billion per year from this tax

That’s half of the €40B the government is looking for this year

Globally? $302–377 billion could be raised—every year

The contract negotiation shows two different visions for the public postal service. The corporation wants to compete with Amazon, and degrade workers’ rights in pursuit of that goal. Workers want to see the public service dimension expanded, including with postal banking to bring in more revenue.
