Thanks! I got the thing I needed at the dollar store (a touch-light for a small space), along with several things I didn't need (... define 'need', I guess), and also went to the grocery store. And had lunch, and did some story world building.

Okay, the way I laughed at this as a vegetarian option... perfect!

I am going to run errands, but I have heard Willow's sad cries from here about lack of crunchy veggies. Where is the bok choi????

And yay, all words are... well. Hmm. It's good to have made words, even if not as many as you wanted!

Yup, but those are different ones! Huh. Who knew there were so many long flights of stairs hanging around!

From The Untamed - the Koi Tower Steps. (These probably aren't the ones from the show, tbh.)

Are these the Jin stairs?

Toe mice?

You might be able to find someone on Rav who'll sell you their old copy - I think it was available in paper. From the number of people who made it from a kit, it seems ... paperish.

But even without that, it's chartable, with some squinting and colored pencils!

It's a stunning sweater.

Elf on a Shelf is also not nice. Ugh.

Akchwally, I forgot something!

Weekends are different! Sometimes he cooks, sometimes we have breakfast for dinner...

Public schools - free public schools - are one of the best ways to increase public education. They create a world in which everyone gets a basic, functional education.

Yes, there are ways in which this education is thwarted, but homeschooling is NOT the best solution.
November 16, 2025 at 8:45 PM
Why would we expect everyone to be able to be a good educator. Education is a skill - one which not every person has.

This isn't because of capitalism, this is because humans are all different from each other. I'm a very skilled knitter. My husband... is not. That's not capitalism.

I'll accept their final domestication when they develop curled tails.

(They're adorable, until they start eyeing up my chickens.)

I could not have successfully homeschooled my child. Neither of us would have survived intact, AND we'd have starved because I couldn't have gone to work.

Homeschooling is not the correct choice for many people. Good public schools are the correct choice.

The day I started wearing those elastic ice-pick shoe thingies is the day I stopped being afraid to leave the car in the winter.

(This scene is a riot - I love it.)

I know that I'm extremely lucky to have the physical/mental ability to do this task AND also to have the stocked pantry/access to food.

One person cooking all the family meals is NOT something we have 'always done', culturally. It's a HUGE burden on that person, and unsupported.

This requires:

knowing what food is in the house
having a well-stocked pantry
being physically/mentally able to do the work of cooking/planning
knowing what we like to eat
being able to GET the foods we like
having the time to cook
knowing HOW to cook
having all the supplies (pots, pans)

I know which things yield useful leftovers (carnitas on Tuesday makes three follow-on meals), I have worked to NOT make leftovers from other meals.

There are still days I stare grumpily into the fridge, unwilling to cook. Sometimes I tell my husband he's picking up dinner on the way home. 🧵
