At a special city council meeting tonight, Newport City Manager Nina Vetter confirmed that the contractor Team Housing Solutions has withdrawn its letter of intent to lease the property at the city's municipal airport. This week, union workers at Bend’s newspaper, The Bulletin, spoke out against its owners, Carpenter Media Group.

Carpenter became the largest media owner in Oregon and the 4th largest in the nation when it purchased a raft of newspapers in the Northwest in 2024.

A majority of judges on the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals agreed today to review a smaller panel's decision that cleared the way for the federal government to deploy troops to Portland. Troops still can't be sent to the city.
