I saw this mooted in the last budget/statement (can't remember which), but not seen anything this time around. I can't see this happening. Police and firefighter employer contributions are nearly 40% of pay!

Yes. I'm saying it's incorrect. You pay income tax on pension contributions that exceed £60k. If you're not in a salary sacrifice scheme you still pay NI on them.

The £60k limit is nothing to do with NI. Not sure why that's relevant. Pension contributions have always been subject to NI. It's just salary sacrificed for pension could now, somehow, also become subject to NI when it exceeds £2k. This wouldn't affect most members of public service schemes.

They don't use salary sacrifice for pension contributions, apart from some LGPS shared cost AVCS

It looks awfully like the government intends to raise the costs of care provision councils are legally required to organise, but fail to fully fund the increased costs. Which will mean voters again paying more in council tax for worse (non-care) local govt. Which will again encourage Reform voting.
