I'm not even sure what the 2 were before this one, but I'm feeling pretty good.

This literally did not happen. So are you lying, or do you not notice when somebody lied to you?

I think there's a lot of time for Dems to remember why they didn't like Newsom 6 months ago.

Which I guess doesn't really dispute your point, but I wanted to sharpen it. IMO now is ~his high point, not a launching pad.

Wait holy shit, a nice correction on this story - THESE CELEBS DIDNT KNOW ABOUT THIS PROJECT. They recorded voices 15 years ago for an audio bible project and Fox is repurposing it bsky.app/profile/falc...

I had no idea it existed until I read an article that included it among several Oscar-bait movies that flopped.

Free cargo e-bike to every household in America. More transformative than anything else you could do for $250B.

PS I’m an alum of one of the pioneers of this tech, I’ve been following it for 30+ years. This has nothing to do with Ludditism, just an awareness of externalities & unintended consequences

I’m not actually aware of any coherent model for how AVs lead to fewer vehicle miles driven. Both theoretical and experimental models show that AVs will drive more (for the obvious reason that users don’t care how many miles they drive if they’re neither behind the wheel nor paying the cost).

And Waymo>>>>>>>>>>>Tesla on this tech.

I don’t see how pretending that Tesla has this almost solved advances the state of the art. Waymo can see the promised land, whether they get there or not.

Tesla is back in Egypt.

That's without even getting into the unsuitability of cul de sac subdivisions for anything but private car transport: you can't ever make them dense enough for transit, bc the bus spends all its time winding around.

Best you can do is park & ride stuff, or kiss & ride.
November 20, 2025 at 12:10 AM
Like, most suburban arterials are already congested at rush hour/school bus time; adding more households to the same street pattern doesn't help that, and it doesn't come with the ability to get around without cars, bc suburbs are like 10% as dense* as walkable cities.

*order of magnitude guess

A. I am 100% in favor of denser suburbs.
B. I'm not convinced, as a matter of geometry, that somewhat more suburban density gains you much in terms of "urban" benefits: walkability, transit viability, Main Street–style commerce. More ppl with shorter commutes by mileage, but not shorter by time.

Too true.

10-15 years ago, economist Brad DeLong spent months trying to train himself to be better on camera for exactly this purpose, but of course that's not an easy trick for an old dog.

[Krugman is interesting bc he's not *great* on camera, but he's pithy enough to compensate]

Incidentally, I think something you can glean from another of the humanities is that Emily Wilson's Homer translations have shown how much appetite there is for new approaches to established subjects. Sure, she had the woman translator hook, but her reach isn't limited to feminist book clubs.

I think disdain for popularizers is such a big part of this, like writing a successful book for nonacademics *that talks about your research* is viewed as suspicious.

Go get that History Dad bag and change minds outside of academia!
