If we are inside a massive black hole encompassing our universe, what would it look like if our black hole collides with another black hole?

Can anyone explain this?! Why do people focus on buying milk and bread (eggs too) when it snows??? I grew up in NC (the South) and no one here has explained it to me. They just shrug and say it’s what you do for a storm. WTF?!

My wife geeking out over how good #PerplexityAI is for her. She told me, “if only there were a physical bot that could follow me around and be my assistant (as good as PerplexityAI is on the laptop.)”

friends, in the northern hemisphere we have now *done* the darkest *eight weeks* of the year. the next 44 weeks are all lighter than this.

(please: no replies to this pointing out other stuff that is still bad. I'll just block. we must be allowed to rejoice in at least *the return of the sun*.)

While eating breakfast, I looked out at the bird feeder and noticed a very strange bird on my squirrel proof feeder. Can anyone identify this odd looking bird🦉? Just kidding, this one has a gleam in the eye as it loads up on breakfast.

I’m my younger days, I enjoyed analyzing samples on a gas chromatograph-mass spectrometer. Nowadays, carpet chromatography via Yorkie urine is a whole lot less satisfying.

If I were made of money, I would donate my left arm, right arm, legs, organs, and anything else donatable, then buy new prosthetics to replace the limbs and organs. But then I wouldn’t be made of money anymore!

I hope that the ceasefire deal truly means an end to the vicious, murderous bombardment of Palestine and I also know that there are not enough ceasefire deals to cover the dead.

The United States supplied the weapons and Israel used them.

Never forget.

Hey @chronicillness.bsky.social, got a joke about this? My latest echocardiogram shows improving ejection fraction but it’s still too low for my cardiologist. He keeps trying to convince me to get an ICD. You know, just to keep me alive.

I wonder if academic institutions are concerned. This study doesn’t look beyond the comparison of publication rates per gender. Does anyone track the attrition rate by gender? Is there a deeper question being asked like, “Is institutional culture still male biased?”

Who’s quitting academia? Data reveal gender gaps in surprising fields
Even in scientific areas in which women are well represented, they are up to 40% more likely than men to leave research within 20 years.

I’d like to add on. If we all learn to find something to be grateful for every day, we can be happier in life. It’s the little things that can be huge. Thanks, @queenofthesouth.bsky.social for giving us your insight.
Your life improves significantly when you stop being a hater and learn how to be happy for other people.

Since my stroke nearly 5 years ago, I have regularly experienced episodes of jamais vu, which is the opposite of deja vu. The idea of something totally familiar being weirdly unfamiliar is very upsetting.
