as I continue my offseason ravings about the importance of defencemen getting involved offensively, the correlation between the defence group's scoring chance assist rate with their team and that team's goals-for/60 at 5-on-5 was much higher than the correlation among forwards

There's some weird consolation narrative going around about how the Hurricanes weren't even supposed to make the playoffs this year and, fam, that's simply untrue.

They're a good team that won two rounds (granted, against teams playing Dennis Cholowski and Alex Alexeyev); no need to make stuff up.

Game-by-game stats from the players. MTL's top line took off when they got to play at home. Different guys for WSH leading the way each game. PLD was their most consistently good with 2-3 great games. Beau doing a nice job on that top line too.
