Politically liberal pro-union not much for conservative or libertarian philosophies or their followers. Retired fed.
The fact this existed means CBS is dead to me.

Not by teh classic definition as there is no physical or social control cults impose on followers. Cult-like, sure but then you could find those who apply that appellation to religions of all sorts, and I'm not going there. True believers, regardless of "cult-hood" don't waver easily.

The attack by Hamas in Gaza was a horrible event, but Israel has done itself no favors with how they have handled it. Conflation of Jews and the state of Israel - might help fundraising and their right wing but then the sins of Israel ...

Not talking about their beliefs, just that they are "true believers" and such usually stay steadfast even in the face of facts that should make them bail. We ignore that or assume "rationality will win" at our peril. Even when he is gone, they will remain. Fascism didn't go away after WW2.

I understand that but you know despite your support you are of wrong color or origin or religion. I don't see conservative Cubans in Miami as being self hating. Nose in the air perhaps to other's from Central/South America, so I suppose that's "racist" but when ICE shows up, they are still brown.

But still don't have an explanation re non-white Trump supporters vis a vis racism/being racist. Strikes me like being a Jewish Nazi. Might exist but not very many.

Belief or faith in both cases, but not commenting on the content, just the actual belief itself.
December 15, 2025 at 6:50 PM
Maybe it's racist of me as an old white guy but so many people of the "kind Trump Hates" are included in his supporters (yes, not a huge number but more than one would expect). Will admit a bunch are evangelicals so there, but I must be filtering how such folks fall into the "racism" bucket.

Not about to call thousands of years of various religious cultures cults. Nor call them stupid. I might disagree with all or most of them in all or most of what they say but I can respect that believers believe. Even if I don't understand why. But I also fear believers as well.
December 15, 2025 at 4:58 PM
It wasn't a value comparison. It's a belief comparison regardless of your view of whether or not what they believe has value or not. That's what makes it a belief, it's Faith or Faith Adjacent. As such, it is strong and again that wasn't a comparison of value, just an example

Some will peel away, but true believers will not go away and will dig in for their guy right or wrong. The unleashing he did will go underground if/when he's out of power, living on in state, local and federal levels voted into office by these folks. Worst kind of converts, like ex-smokers.
December 15, 2025 at 12:57 PM
Stupid? Not literally. Some would say that about religious believers. Not my fight. But regardless, their belief is real and ignored at peril. Assumptions his base will dissipate and not go underground or dig in because of "reality" regarding him are dangerous. They've seen Jerusalem and like it.
December 15, 2025 at 12:53 PM
Said majority of his support, not majority support. Many people never liked him, a bunch no longer like him but a lot of folks still like him despite everything reality shows them about him. We take that group for granted or ignore them at our risk.
December 15, 2025 at 12:49 PM
Don't disagree but wasn't the point. So many responses show the strength of belief here. Some religious some not.
December 15, 2025 at 12:47 PM
Could be, maybe not. But regardless my point is simply the power of believing. Not the value of that belief.
December 15, 2025 at 12:44 PM
Didn't compare him to Jesus, I used that to highlight the power of belief. Said nothing about those beliefs, just power of belief. You bring that value viewpoint.
December 15, 2025 at 12:42 PM
I get your point but it lacks the social and life controls to be called a cult. But whether it is or isn't or what if that belief is "good or bad" is besides the point. That's a value call. The point is so many believe despite reality telling them they shouldn't. We ignore that at our peril.
December 15, 2025 at 4:08 AM
Not commenting on anything but the depth of "belief" and the strength of "faith" in the face of contrary evidence. What is that "belief" is is kinda beside the point. Earth is flat, god is a turtle, some MAGA crap, whatever, you believe strongly, it survives encountering reality. True believers.

Not something I disagree with.
