Politically liberal pro-union not much for conservative or libertarian philosophies or their followers. Retired fed.
Not knowing history is a problem, and WW2 is now beyond the lifespan of most Americans, and is more a story than an event. Sad to say we are seeing a resurgence of this kind of evil, and they don't look so different in cause. Just in implementation.

No sub to WashPo, so no link but while this is kinda mind boggling, what happens to them "when everyone is deported?" Not a fan of creative reuse of detention camps, no good precedents for this kind of ramp up.

With everything going on, the one time Congress asserts itself is in voiding some District of Columbia home rule tax policy? This is where they exert their power and prerogative? Not tariffs, declaring war, or acting to stop the erosion of their authority vis a vis the executive branch? SMFH

I am not religious but never has "love of money is the root of all evil" been so front and center. Greed in so many forms, actual money, and currency-like power and influence, we find even robber barons of yore are humbled. Unrestrained greed capitalism - can I call it evil? Blind eye make a buck.

MAGA says immigrant taco cart owner with traffic ticket has to go, is OK with ICE tactics, but sees no issues with Trumps racism, his history of sexual assault, pedophile friends and making millions off his office while in office. Says a lot about their moral character, despite their churchgoing.

40+ years a subscriber, had to walk away, despite wanting to support the staff. But I can't support Bezos here with how he's ruined the thing. It's a product now, and journalism isn't a "product", like twinkies and jewlery.

The editor of WashPo telling subscribers that the changes will "enhance the product" to me says exactly what is wrong with them. It's not "the product". If that's hard for them to grasp, now we know why it's going down the shi*ter.

If you commit an offense requiring a fine or incarceration and do your time, pay the fine, it should mean something. Otherwise, the lesson put out there is that there is no up side to abiding by the law, to paying the price, be it incarceration or fines, so why bother? That's what ICE is doing.

Tell your local governments to pass legislation, to prohibit the permitting of privately-owned buildings operating as detention centers. It is something localities have jurisdiction over. Make it hard for the bastards to set up mini-prisons in local office space.

Is there anything worse than MAGA Catholics like JD Vance and Steve Bannon? It's bad enough they want to pull the US into a past we grew out of, but our religion too? Assholes can't help but contaminate any institutions they claim to be part of.

Epstein files. The redaction process is flawed, and saying it's only .001% is gaslighting. It ignores the fact people illegally named are immediately and literally harmed and that harm should be the focus, not minimizing the errors to cover the shoddy process.

Trump is vandal-in-chief, sacking American institutions, and landscapes, despoiling them and trying to re-gild America, not rebuild it. Fucker is trying to build his gilded version of pyramids to memorialize himself for the ages. We will remember, but as "never again".
