For those of us who grew up in the Great Lakes region in the 1970s, we will never forget the tragic loss of the Edmund Fitzgerald 50 years ago. This is one of the articles that inspired Canadian songwriter Gordon Lightfoot to compose his award-winning tribute “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.”

I spoke to Ralph’s neighbor, who manages his website and helped him at home every day, about his final two weeks and the service held for him. He spoke to Ralph about the website and he’ll keep it up and running. This is also the wish of the executor of his estate.

It’s incredible when you think of the movies she’s still so clearly remembered for that GRACE KELLY’s film career lasted just 5yrs, with her retiring from acting aged just 26.

REAR WINDOW (1954)

She was born 96yrs ago today.

Ralph Senensky had a huge collection of golden age movie posters in an upstairs bedroom. Hundreds of them. Disappointed at how few of the classic movies I had seen, he rattled off a list of “must see” movies, which I scribbled down as fast as I could. Here is his list. #TOSSatNight

Same split second timing of the transporter during an explosion as Doomsday Machine. Have to think that some atoms are out of place when they finally materialize. #TOSSatNight

Always loved the idea of the “anti-gravs.” #TOSSatNight

I don’t grok what evidence there is that the creature has come to “spawn” and why it would want to return to the scene of the attack on the Farragut. #TOSSatNight

Ralph described his working relationship with Jerry Finnerman as unspoken. He would stage the scenes and Jerry would light them. They harmonized without needing to speak to each other. #TOSSatNight

Love the purple lighting in Kirk’s quarters, a calming color to contrast with his growing emotional state. #TOSSatNight

This was the 14th time Ralph Senensky had worked with Stephen Brooks, who was also cast as the #2 to Efrem Zimbalist Jr. on The FBI, which Ralph also directed. #TOSSatNight
We can thank Ralph Senensky for casting Stephen Brooks as Ensign Garrovick. #TOSSatNight

This is one of very few original Star Trek stories where the “alien” encountered is declared a monster that must be destroyed and there is no attempt to communicate with it. #TOSSatNight

Am crushed by the passing of Ralph Senensky. I was honored to know this great man, enjoying many hours of conversation at his home in Carmel. I loved his stories of working in Hollywood, including directing Star Trek. He was warm, witty, and fun. The world is a lesser place without him. #TOSSatNight

Was in Carmel this week looking forward to another visit with Ralph, but was unable to reach him. When there was no response to a knock on his door, I feared the worst. A member of his family informed us he was recovering from a recent illness. Am crushed by the news of his passing. #TOSSatNight

Just read that Ralph Senensky has died aged 102. I’ve had many hours of wonderful conversation with this great man. He was a joy. I could not reach him by phone this weekend, and when there was no answer at this door, I feared the worst. His great legacy will live in our hearts and on the screen.
