Wine: why are women underrepresented in fine wine? Why are there so few women collectors?

Also wine:

Went to a supper club in a community urban garden in East London (yes I know, I'm a cunt) and at the end of the night, they showed off the painting that they found discarded on the street and my god I've never wanted to know more about an artist than whoever painted this

@reinikainen.bsky.social Konepaja, so cool. I'm just a short stroll from Populus.

Newton-Johnson Seadragon Pinot Noir. Exceptionally pretty, vivid and delicate Pinot Noir from South Africa 🤯

Yesterday, for some escapism from current events I put Star Trek TNG on. And the plot was around Spock's ill-fated efforts as a Vulcanian ambassador to forge a lasting peace with the ruthless Romulans.

They make excellent, fresh and vibrant Garnachas in McLaren Vale. It's like a faraway Gredos.

This is a lovely textbook Chardonnay by Newton Johnson. Serious but fresh, with that struck match nose and plenty of grippy, textured, mouthfeel.

Hamilton Russell Pinot Noir 2021 from Hemel-en-Aarde. Serious Burgundian Pinot opened way too early. Lots of funk and spice to go with the vivid forest fruit.

F me did Robert Parker do a disservice to wine. 15 years of overextracted dark ages. What is Argentinian wine meant to taste like? Not like 200% new oak 55 day triple pumpover Malbec, surely.

Do children spontaneously start birdwatching?!

Xinomavro o'clock! Light in colour and extraction. Quite a bit of tomato and spice with (in this case) lighter tannin.

I guess I'll buy a new pair of shoes on odd years

Rich and intense: I really like this Piekenierskloof Heirloom White. Good value when spotted in the UK. A blend of Chenin planted in 1962 with Grenache Blanc and Viognier.

I tried a 2022 Burgundy and liked it. I might buy more 2022 Burgundy.

Anyone likes traditional trifle? Almond biscuits with 375ml Sauternes, two pints of custard, a pint of Amontillado whisked with two pints of double cream. Sprinkle of nutmeg to finish.

Burgundy 2023 EP prices look like they are going upwards again. Same with some Piedmont releases. Makes Bordeaux 2023 look like a misstep yet they can't sell 2021 or 2022 at the prices they release at.

I shall call these cheesy puff puffs. Perhaps I should have taken note of what I was doing.

I'm not much into puddings but this M&S Belgian Chocolate Tart is excellent. So flavourful it goes well beyond the stated 6 portions. Even more if you pair with vanilla ice cream.

I love Knipser Spätburgunders. Spicy, smokey, grippy and red fruited. 2017 is in its mature and elegant phase, 2019 very lively and punchy even if it just 13% abv!

Toro Albalá 1993 PX and Cabrales - what are you gifting to your friends this Xmas?

Anyone has experience with Chilean Vigno? Old vine Cariñena from Maipo. This one is fresh and charming. Very unique raspberry leaf / blackcurrant leaf note on the nose too.

Matsanko by Aseginoloza and Leunda. Garnacha, Tempranillo and Viura with whole clusters and four months in used French oak. Structured and midweight. More reminiscent of Northern Rhône or Morgon than Navarra. Cool little number.

That was fun - can you get three more different wines?
