I'm going to dinner. I will try to have an updated piece out tomorrow afternoon. Then I'm taking the rest of the weekend off. I need to pace myself and function as a person while this clearly continues. Godspeed everyone.

This will be all of America soon. The best thing the rest of the world could do for the next four years is to deny entry to Americans without proof of vaccination.

ICYMI I have a piece out about this spending freeze business. What happened, why it happened and why it's a burgeoning constitutional crisis and the most dramatic moment in the constitutional history of Fiscal Policy in this country. Yes, that’s a big deal.

I have not felt prepared to read this article today about the resignation of the Treasury's Fiscal Assistant Secretary (who was just acting Treasury Secretary) until like a half an hour ago. I finally did. Its terrifying. I'm terrified.

I appreciate all the people recommending the Shock Doctrine. I've been thinking about what makes Trump's use of these tactics a little different.

In recent decades, shock tactics were used mainly to rapidly impose neoliberal economic policies. But what Trump is doing goes way beyond that.

Chaos and confusion. Somebody read @naomiaklein.bsky.social The Shock Doctrine as a manual, it seems. Time for people to read it again for countermeasures also.

Good time to remind people what a journalist is/isn't. A journalist:
- has to do reporting of some kind (data, archival, source-based)
- has to fact-check that reporting
- is held to a higher legal standard than op-eds, essayists, commentators (generally can't share an opinion w/o documentation)
Made my first starter pack! These are the climate journalists I know and love and highly recommend following on BlueSky so far. Please tell me who I'm missing (and apologies in advance if I've missed you, I swear it's not intentional!)

Also claims with zero attribution that CEO “was well liked internally”

They’re also telling us they’re not covering the emergency hospital stay last month when my wife’s liver enzyme levels spiked and the doctor told us she needed close monitoring.

They said that because everything worked out, the stay was unnecessary.

Great system we got here.

My insurance has consistently slow-walked my doc's pre-approval of a preventative med (I've taken for years) that helps me to live with less debilitating pain, meaning that I am now almost a month overdue and it has completely worn off. They do this EVERY TIME I get a new script for it.
UnitedHealthcare has now twice denied our doctor’s pre-approval request for the weekly ultrasounds my wife needs to monitor her high-risk pregnancy.

These insurance companies should not exist. We need single-payer.

Couple looks at the bomb cyclone moving into the Pacific Northwest. Pressure is down to around 950mb. A similar storm occurred 3 years ago in October 2021. That storm bombed out to 942mb. Sounds like there's a good chance this one might exceed that.
